Ecclesiastes 5:18-19 Then I realized that it is good and proper for a man to eat and drink, and to find satisfaction in his toilsome labor under the sun during the few days of life God has given him--for this is his lot. Moreover, when God gives any man wealth and possessions, and enables him to enjoy them, to accept his lot and be happy in his work--this is a gift of God.
WORK ... IS A GOOD THING
The National Dairy Council wants us all to know that Milk does a body good." It's true (unless you are lactose intolerant) that milk is good for the body. It offers protein, calcium, potassium and other necessary vitamins. It even tastes good.
Solomon, one of the wisest men who ever lived, also tells us under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit that it is good for a person to find satisfaction in his labor. There is a certain satisfaction in a job well done, isn't there? The lawn looks great when freshly mown. The house looks much better when freshly painted. Even the car looks better when we've finished washing it on a hot summer day!
We do well to find satisfaction in our work rather than complain about it.
Moreover, when God gives wealth and possessions through labor and enables us to enjoy them and accept our lot in life and be happy, this is a gift of God. If you are able to enjoy the gifts that God has given you through your labors, accept your lot in life and are happy with your job and your work, then thank God.
After all, work isn't a bad word. It's a blessing and a gift of God to be undertaken with thanksgiving.
