Psalm 130:3-4 If you, O LORD, should mark iniquities, O Lord, who could stand? But with you there is forgiveness, that you may be feared.
WAY TOO MUCH WEIGHT
When's the last time that you lifted something really heavy? If you've been holding something heavy, especially for a long time, it's natural to want to get rid of that weight just about as soon as possible. If we've packed on a few too many pounds, we go on diets to get rid of the weight. If we're carrying our bags to our hotel room, we place them onto a luggage trolley to get rid of the weight. If we have too many groceries to carry, we set them in a cart to wheel them to our cars.
The psalmist describes a similar situation. In this life, we carry around suitcases full of our sins. Sin which weighs us down. Guilt which piles up on our consciences. Remorse which can drive us to depression. Our suitcases of sin are heavy. They drag us down. With a repentant heart, we, along with the psalmist acknowledge the weight of our sins, but even more so we anticipate the peace and forgiveness-- the steadfast love and plentiful redemption that is freely provided by our LORD.
If the one true God truly counted the sin which weighs upon each of us, no one would be able to stand before his holiness. Thank God that you don't have to carry your suitcases of sin anymore. You can drop them. God placed all those sins on the load-bearing shoulders of Jesus! With the LORD there is peace and remission of sins and that's all due to the person and work of Jesus our Savior. You are invited to exclaim with the psalmist, "With You there is forgiveness!" What a blessing! What a Savior!
