Luke 24:50 When he had led them out to the vicinity of Bethany, he lifted up his hands and blessed them.
BLESSINGS FOR BODY AND SOUL
The Bible doesn't record the exact words Jesus used when He spoke His blessing on the disciples on Ascension Day. Certainly part of it was the assurance that all through the duration of their earthly journey He would exercise His power as God's Son to provide their day to day bodily needs. He would see that they would come short of no gift needed for their temporal well-being. He would furnish them with food to nourish their bodies. Physical stamina for their earthly callings. Healing in days of sickness. Ability to weather storms of emotional distress. All other items of daily bread.
Then too -- and especially -- His Ascension Day blessing included the promise to supply their all-important soul needs. He would use the Gospel message of forgiveness to shore up their faith and enable them to rejoice in their coming future inheritance, guaranteed through the finished work of Jesus. When doubts assailed them about their heavenly Father's love and care, He would dispel the doubts, restore their confidence, give them joy in believing.
It's the same assurance the ascended Savior gives for our comfort today.
Go, My children, with My blessing, Never alone.
Waking, sleeping, I am with You; You are My own.
In my love's baptismal river I have made you Mine forever.
Go, My children, with My blessing -- You are my own.
