Hello, Firstname

Wednesday 14 April

On the 14 April we welcome Gary Shinner LRPS EFIAP/b MPSA BPSA  AWPF with his talk entitled Success and failure path since 2007. This is an in-depth look at what worked and failed.

Gary is a self-taught photographer and has been taking images since about 1983. He became more serious about photography in 1991 when he joined a local Camera Club in Llanelli. Gary had been in engineering in various guises between 1980 up to 2015, and now works for the local authority as a driver to take independents to day centres and hospitals.

He holds a Licentiateship of the Royal Photographic Society (LRPS) 2007. He became a member of PSA in 2009. Gary received his AFIAP in 2011, EFIAP in 2012. He launched his website, in 2010. He earned his PPSA in 2012, then EFIAP/bronze in April 2014 and his EPSA in 2015 & AWPF for a panel in architecture. BPSA in architecture in 2017 for a colour panel of Valencia Science Park. He earned his MPSA in 2018 and his MPSA2 in 2020. Since June 2014 Gary has been listed as a speaker and judge in the WPF.
Gary has also been on the WPF as one of the judges for the Associate day in 2019 and 2020. Gary hopes that his successes will inspire other fellow photographers to seek out their own success.

In his talk, Gary documents his progress to achieving distinctions including displaying images of his work and talking through them analytically, showing how some were successful but also why some were failures. He will give advice on why some images can do well in mono but not in colour and how to choose photos for a panel.

Lost Your Link To Weekly Zoom Meeting
I seem to get an email a week from members who have either deleted or not received their newsletter and cannot access the weekly Zoom meeting because they don't have the link. There are two ways to find the link:

1) The links to ALL meetings are in the Members' Portal of the BPS website. To enter the Members' Portal you will need the following:
Username - This is your Membership Number, which is always quoted at the top of your newsletters.

2) At the foot of every newsletter is the following:

DI Group
Next Monday, 12 April, it is again time for the monthly Digital Group meeting where every BPS member is invited to join in. I am hoping you will have some exciting presentations you may like to show. I already have one set of images from Joanne last month which deserves a proper look. If you have been working away on your images then DI meeting is an ideal place to share them informally for comments or just showing them off. If you would like to share any useful techniques you may have picked up recently or looking for answers on your images DI meeting is an ideal place to share them.

Please send your images to me by Sunday 11th April, 6 pm.  Images: JPG format, sRGB colour space, 1600 x 1200 pixels (same as competitions but not strict), prefix filenames with 01, 02, 03 etc. if you wish to show them in that order. Email attachment size - max 20Mb per email.

I look forward to seeing you on Monday.

FREE TO ENTER - 18th China International Photographic Art Exhibition
I received the following from Shangtuf Exhibition in China. The competition is free to enter and full details can be found on their website
I'm publishing this because Shangtuf support the Bristol Salon each year and it only seemed fair to publicise their exhibition.
Dear Photo friends,
I am writing this email to send you information of a competition-18th China International Photographic Art Exhibition, which is organized by China Photographers Association and the highest quality international photo competition in China. The competition is free of participation fee and closes on Apr.30, 2021. In the past editions, the winner are usually invited to the awards ceremony in China. However, it is too early to tell if the same will apply to this edition of competition due to the travel restrictions imposed by the pandemic. If things return to normal again, it’s very likely that they will organize awards ceremony and invite winners to attend.
Entrusted by international department of China Photographers Association, we cordially invite you and your club members to participate at 18th China International Photographic Art Exhibition. We’d appreciate it a lot if you could help us to organize entries to this competition. The attached is a copy of the entry rule, please check!
If you and you team has photos appropriate for this competition, please send them as soon as you can to shangtuf_exhibition@aliyun.com We suggested you to send them to us in advance. You can send multiple times before the last day of Apr.20th. Do not send them on the last day as we are worried that we don’t have enough time to sort out and send to the organizer, which might cause failed submission. Besides, you can submit your entries per the requirement on the website. Please send a list of your members’ participation and we will send to the China Photographers Association. Hope to see wonderful entries from your side.
We look forward to your entries to highlight the whole exhibition.
Best Regards,
Guo Jing
Shangtuf Image and Art Club

Trumpet Blowers' Corner
Salon acceptances: BPS photographers are now achieving large numbers of salon acceptances and constraints on time and space mean we can't include them all. So please only advise of awards or other milestones.

Contrary to popular belief, I do not possess psychic powers and need you to tell me if you've had successes. If you want to blow your own trumpet (or someone else's), then this is the place to do it. Please let me know and I'll include details in a future issue.

Make Money For BPS Every Time You Shop On Amazon!
Now we're all still in lockdown, the thought of on-line shopping must be looming large in many members' minds. It's worth remembering that if you so wish, each and every one of you can support BPS with every purchase you make on Amazon by using Amazon Smile. Click on the link below – then it’s self-explanatory.
Shopping using Smile is no different to your normal Amazon shopping and costs you nothing, it's just that you need to tell it that you wish to use Smile and then we get some pennies!
