Matthew 6:33 But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.
IT'S ALL ABOUT HIM!
"It's the economy, stupid!" During the 1992 election this was the motto used by one of the presidential candidates. He used it to keep himself focused on what he saw as the central issue of that year's campaign. It worked. He was elected.
We certainly want elected leaders who seek to implement policies that will help bring stability to our economy, and lead to gainful employment for as many as possible.
Sadly, however, we can get way too focused on our need for material things. The world has always lived by the motto: "It's all about the money, stupid!" In these trying times our national preoccupation with the almighty dollar is very obvious. So many are thinking of nothing else but how bad things are, and how much worse they may become. Because their heart's treasure is money and the things of this earth, they became angry and fearful when they no longer have as much of what they love. Even Christians can get carried away by all the economic doom and gloom. We too can become all too focused on money, or the lack thereof.
We need to remember that's it's really all about Him and His love for us! He offered up His Son on a cross for us. Therefore we need never doubt that He will provide for our every need. He wants our heart's treasure to be Him and His Word. He wants us to seek first the things of His kingdom, to focus on the righteousness He has given to all sinners through Jesus.
Yes, God knows we need clothing, food, and shelter. We can trust Him to provide for us by enabling us to find work, or by some other means of support if we are unable to work. He promises that all we need for this body and life will be added to us even as we keep Him first in our hearts and lives. Even in tough times such as these, we can count on our Savior-God to make good on His promise.
