We're excited to share this "Idea of the Week", submitted by either the MAiZE staff or one of your fellow siteowners. There never seems to be a shortage of ideas and the truth is that some of the best originate with all of you! So, if you ever have an idea you'd like us to pass along to the group, please just send it our way. Also, please remember that we'll be archiving these ideas on the siteowner web site, so that you can go back and view them whenever you like.
A Pumpkin Cannon Turned Water Bottle Cannon!

This week's Idea comes from Larry Emerson at Dewberry Farm in Brookshire, TX...

"Because pumpkins are impossible for us to grow and too expensive to buy, we modified the two pumpkin cannons we'd purchased from Donald Courville to shoot water bottles instead. We use steel targets set about 150 feet away and the kids can now hit the target about 90% of the time. When the bottle hits the target, it just vaporizes with a huge bang.

To be honest, I really think the customers get a bigger kick out of shooting the bottles than the pumpkins. They make a great show! You can view a YouTube clip of our cannons by clicking here

We charge one dollar per shot and the 16.9 oz water bottles cost me about 11 cents at Sam's.  The only real problem with the bottles is they do make a mess but we use a rake to clean them up at the end of the day and it takes about 15 minutes to get most of them.  Some farms in more eco-minded areas might want to recycle their 20 oz bottles which will work with a 3" i.d. barrel."

I have helped many of Brett’s customers and NAFDMA members establish ATMs at their farms with much success.  I have ATMs established in the Kansas City area and throughout the country and welcome the opportunity to provide service for your company.

I am available to answer any questions or concerns you may have.  Please call me and I will do my best to help you get an ATM established at your farm.

Testimonial
“We loved having our ATM for our 2010 season and highly recommend Kirk and his services! The ATM paid for itself times two and was very warmly received by our customers.  The initial setup was very smooth with great guidance from the technicians.  No problems during our season whatsoever with the machine.  Average usage for our customers was $58/transaction. Making money off your customer's transactions versus being charged by the credit card companies (we do not accept credit cards, never have, never will) is a no brainer in our opinion!”

A Question on Some of Your Minds...
Q: How do I get my brochures or rack cards into the stands I see in hotels and throughout the community?

A: If you are in an area where the tourist market is large enough to justify spending part of your budget on brochures & rack cards (for many of us, this isn’t a big enough audience to focus on), here’s the scoop on how to get your materials out there…

Though many hotel/community rack card stands are serviced by companies such as http://www.certifiedfolder.ca/, we think your best bet is to contact your local Convention & Visitors Bureau to find out who the local distributor is in your area. Some communities vary and your local CVB is your best starting point for getting the right answer.
