Huntsville Town Hotline

In this Hotline:

  • Property Tax Assessments and Appraisals
  • My apologies as many of you have already received this, but the information is fairly important and timely.

Here is an email (updated slightly) sent yesterday to those who signed the petition to have the Huntsville Property taxes reassessed:

    Dear Huntsville Resident,

You recently signed a petition to have HUNTSVILLE properties reassessed. The 300+ signature petition was authored by Huntsville Resident D-Bell and several have been helping him disperse it.  It has yet to be presented to the county, but there are many avenues being pursued by many individuals. With that in mind, I wanted to pass on some important information and suggestions.

    BECOME INFORMED AND STAY INFORMED

There are many sources of information, but I would recommend checking:

www.HuntsvilleTown.com where a dedicated Property Tax page is updated regularly - Huntsville Town also has an email list for the dissemination of timely information. If you would like to be added to this email list, simply reply to this message or apply at www.HuntsvilleTown.com

www.Ogden-Valley.blogspot.com which is an informative Forum for Ogden Valley residents. They also have an email list and you can sign up on their web site to be kept up to date of Valley wide issues.

Valley Citizens For Responsible Development (VCRD) - This is a relatively new group in the valley that provides timely information via email. Contact VCRD chairman Larry Zini to have your address added. dhitman@aol.com

BE PROACTIVE - REQUEST AN APPEAL

Several Realtors have offered to conduct a Certified Market Analysis (CMA) of your property. To find a realtor, call the Weber North Davis Association of Realtors at

    (801) 476-4216

We just received this response from Prudential of Huntsville:

Prudential Utah - Real Estate, Huntsville office is more than happy to help. We will be running an ad in the Ogden Valley News letting residences know that they may call our office and make complimentary private appointments to conduct a CMA on their property. Please, give our number (801) 745-2370 out to any one that is interested, and we will help them with their questions.

Also, you may wish to have a full appraisal conducted. These normally cost about $300, but Appraiser Davis Strong has offered Valley residents a desktop appraisal at a significantly discounted price of $100.

You may contact the appraiser directly:

    Davis Strong (801) 631-6449

You may want to get both a CMA and an appraisal, then use whichever one will provide you with the best benefit (lower property value and assessment).

September 17, 2007 is the deadline for filing an appeal.

    OTHER INFORMATION

State Representative Gage Froerer is attempting to negotiate immediate tax relief with the county, and we are hopeful his efforts will pay off

Also, many are looking at the possibility of filing a class action lawsuit to put an immediate halt to the increase. For more information about joining the class, contact:

    dkbell266@yahoo.com

That’s all for now, have a great week.

    Sincerely,

    Richard L. Sorensen
