Promise and the Monster – Red Tide
The anticipated second effort is out September 26, 2011

Red Tide is an album about the blue skies in the desert and muddy waters. About girls moving out,
running away, bored, ugly. They move among railroads, residential areas and beaches. They stay in
destructive relationships too long, they lie down in the ocean to rest, they set fire to their houses to
never return.

In 2007, when Billie Lindahl was 19, the debut Transparent Knives earned critical acclaim. Now,
four years on, the follow up Red Tide is released.
The album is the result of a close collaboration with producer Jörgen “Jugglo” Wall, also the
drummer on the album, who greatly contributed to the sound and instrumentation of the songs.
Other noteworthy contributors are Sebastian Öberg and Örjan Högberg from Fläskkvartetten (The
Fleshquartet).

Since the debut in 2007, Promise & the Monster has supported José González on a Nordic tour,
played all over Europe including two extensive French tours. Starting out all on her own on stage,
she is now accompanied by three-four musicians. The music finds influences in 60’s folk, kraut
rock, chamber music and haunting places.

Words on the debut Transparent Knives:

“You better not let Promise & the Monster out of sight” (SvD, Sweden’s second largest morning
paper
)

“What a talent! Promise & the Monster is simply too good. Listen for yourselves. What a voice! And
what songs! And she’s only 19. What a prodigy!” (Nöjesguiden, the Village Voice of Stockholm)

“L’un des trésors de cet automne’” (Les Inrockuptibles)

“Night Out”‘s chorus explodes like a thicket of fireflies against the midnight sky, its double-tracked
vocals and string section marking the album’s warmest, and Euro-poppiest, moment. While “Sheets’” organ vamps aren’t exactly electrifying, they shade the track with spooky gothic menace. And her version of Carter Family staple “Single Girl, Married Girl”, trades mountain-folk fatalism for percolating plucked strings and a sprightly singsong”. (Pitchfork blog)
