Psalm 95:1 Come, let us sing for joy to the LORD; let us shout aloud to the Rock of our salvation.

PRAISE BE TO THE TRIUNE GOD, THE GOD OF OUR SALVATION

As we celebrate the Festival of the Holy Trinity it is well for us to contemplate with thanksgiving the important role each Person of the Trinity played in our salvation:

Before the foundations of the earth were laid GOD THE FATHER formulated the great salvation plan. In love He made the decision to send His dear Son into the sinful world to live a holy life for us and suffer the penalty for our sins on the cross. Part of this plan included using His mighty power to raise His Son from the dead to show that He accepted His Son's saving work as fully sufficient for redeeming the whole world of guilty sinners.

When the fullness of the time arrived, GOD THE SON appeared on earth, born of woman, born under the law, and carried through the work of salvation "to a T," in every detail exactly according to the Father's plan. This all happened in time and space history 2,000 years ago.

How could the death of one person make good for the sins of the whole human race from Adam and Eve till the end of time? Because it was the death of the second Person of the Holy Trinity, the Son of God! It has been said that if Jesus had shed just one drop of His blood, it would have been enough to pay for the sins of all because His blood (being the blood of God) is infinitely precious! Of course, Jesus did more than shed a single blood drop. In love He sacrificed Himself completely for us.

However, everything Jesus did to make us right with our holy God through His redeeming work would have been to no avail if GOD THE SPIRIT had not performed His work of love in us. Because we were dead in sin we couldn't come to Jesus or decide to put our trust in Him on our own. The Holy Spirit, in an act of sheer grace, used the Word to kindle the flame of faith in our hearts and thus make us spiritually alive. When that happened all the blessings Jesus won for the world by His life, death, and resurrection became our very own.

All glory be to our Triune God!
