THE WHEEL WELCOMES ANNOUNCEMENT OF €800,000 IN GRANTS TO ASSIST
DEVELOPMENT OF SOCIAL ENTERPRISE ACROSS IRELAND

The Wheel, the national association of charities, community groups and social enterprises today welcomes the announcement from Minister for Rural and Community Development, Mr Michael Ring TD, of €800,000 in grants for social services projects all across the country.

Welcoming this announcement, Deirdre Garvey, CEO of The Wheel, said, “We are pleased to see the Department, and Minister Ring moving swiftly in allocating funds for training and development as part of the National Social Enterprise Policy launched in July.”

It is anticipated that up to 300 social service projects will benefit from the allocation of the funds in the upcoming 12 month period. Funding is aimed at improving social organisations in areas such as business planning, mentoring, leadership, governance, financial planning and digital innovation.

Mrs. Garvey continued, “The allocation of funding shows a commitment by Minister Ring to supporting social service projects to upskill in areas such as business planning, funding, governance and public procurement so as to be best equipped to positively impact on social service standards in both rural and urban areas.”

Mr Ring said it would be seeking expressions of interest soon and the money would be allocated before the end of this year. The grant applications will be assessed by the Government's community development support organisation Pobal.
