Next Wednesday, 14 September, we have a visit from Matt Emett with his talk entitled Rediscovering our Forgotten Heritage. Here’s what Matt says about his work:
Anything abandoned, off limits or hidden from view makes for interesting viewing, showing an audience something new that they don’t see in everyday life. I have held several solo exhibits with more coming up. The work has been published online, magazine articles and newspaper picture stories, Yahoo News have just run a feature on the work too and I have just signed contracts with two London galleries. I plan to keep on doing exactly what I’m doing in the future, perhaps also doing some collaborations with other photographers and artists.
You can read more of Matt's photography and interests by visiting his website. The evening promises to be something completely different and fascinating.

Next Monday, 12 September, is the monthly meeting of the DI Group. As usual all members are welcome, especially if they turn up bearing prints or USB sticks full of images. |
Print Competition - Round 1
|
Don't forget that the closing date for Print Competition Round 1 is only just around the corner - Wednesday, 21 September. This round will be judged by Roger Parry MPAGB, ARPS, EFIAP, Hon PAGB, ESFIAP from Smethwick Photographic Society. We hope that all members, at whatever level, will consider entering - for the joy of public recognition, constructive critique and the prospect of glory. With no expense spared, self-adhesive labels for your prints are now available from the table under the honours board at BPS. Let's have a bumper entry!
Details and entry rules for the Print Competitions and how to submit your entries can be found on pages 22-28 of your 2016-2017 BPS Handbook.

Well not really, I lied - but it has got you to read this paragraph. The following, which appeared in last week's newsletter, is being repeated as no one has contacted me (yet). As mentioned, there is a considerable amount of equipment in the store that is not on the inventory of equipment owned by BPS. If you have loaned or donated equipment to the Society since we moved to Unit 13, the following applies to you and it would help us considerably in the preparation of the inventory if you could let us know what that equipment is and whether it is on loan or has been donated.
We are in the throes of preparing an up to date inventory of all equipment at Unit 13 for insurance purposes and now only have the contents of the upstairs store left to list. The studio equipment that is in the store seems to have bred at an alarming rate since we moved from Clifton and we are no longer sure what belongs to BPS and what belongs to members. So that we can sort out the inventory properly we would appreciate it if you could let us know if you have any studio equipment in the store (and what it is) and additionally, when you will be able to remove it. This is because any equipment held at Unit 13 but not owned by BPS is not covered by our insurance.
Any equipment that is not already on the inventory and is not claimed by members by the end of September will be deemed to be the property of BPS and as such, any equipment found to be surplus to the requirements of the studio and/or the Society will be disposed of after that date.
|
In line with the article above, we have already sorted out some older equipment that is destined for the tip. Before we make that fateful trip, the equipment is on a table upstairs in the Other Room, if anyone wants any of it they are welcome to take it. It will be there for one more week, after which it will be too late.

We have received the following from Historic England:
The history of our land and its people is marked in the fabric of England’s buildings and places. The most significant of these are listed, so they can be understood and protected for the future. The List has almost 400,000 entries: barrows and bunkers, palaces and pigsties, plague crosses and piers, tower blocks and tombstones, cathedrals, windmills and rollercoasters. It is a unique record of the country’s evolving history and character. You can search every entry for free online.
From 7th June, for the first time in history, we are inviting the public to join us in keeping The List rich, relevant and up-to-date. We are opening it up and asking people and community groups across England to share their knowledge and pictures, so we can record important facts about places, and even unlock the secrets of some. Many places and buildings on the list are well-known and even world-famous. But in some cases there is much that remains unknown, and none of the list entries include images. That’s why we need your help – so we can share images, insights and secrets of England’s special places, and capture them for future generations.
If you have images of any listed site, please do share them to the List with your credit. When approved, your image will remain on this national database, accessed worldwide around 200,000 times every month.
