Hi Friend of PST,

You are receiving this note because you have either volunteered --- or at some point --- said that you would like to volunteer. If that's not the case, please reply to this email and we'll take you off of the volunteer list.

Thanks to Taylor Long, who is doing PR for Portland Story Theater and has been instrumental in organizing our volunteer tasks, we've prepared a list of things that we need help with.

At the show opportunities
We need some support at our season opener on September 14th, 2013.

Strikers (2)
While not a glamorous role, it is really crucial. Hipbone is a multi-use space and everyone involved in the show -- Jeff, Lynne, Lawrence, Penny, the tellers, and our strikers help transform the space back into a drawing studio for the following day. After every show we have to put all of the chairs away, take down all of the signs, clean up any recycling or trash, take all of our stuff out and load it in the car/s. Sound like something you can do? You can sign up individually or with a friend. Let us know if you're interested and for which show and we'll get you on the comp list: tellers@portlandstorytheater.com

Servers (2)
This is the coveted task at each show. You must be 21 or older and be a happy, smiley person who loves to talk with people and doesn't mind reminding folks to use the tongs instead of their fingers ;-) .... can put the dirty wine glasses away correctly .... and is not too accident prone. You may want to bring a friend to help you. Please be sure that your friend is outgoing and fun like you, ok? You show up no later than 6:30 pm the night of the show to make sure everything is set up and ready to go when the doors open at 7pm. But it is after the show when your work really begins. This is when you clean up and put things away in an orderly fashion. This year, we plan to have designated boxes for everything and we hope that this will make it easier for everyone involved. No need to be OLCC certified but the OLCC requires that each server sign an agreement that says you won't serve an intoxicated person.Want to help with the bar? Email us at: tellers@portlandstorytheater.com

Donation Divas (1-2)  Note: Not gender-specific even though it says Diva ...
This is a new concept that may become one of the most fun at each show. If you have super social skills, are outgoing and don't mind asking people for money... well contact us today! Oh and you also need to know (or be willing to learn) how to use the Square on an iPhone. We are looking for smart, sassy people to work the crowd at intermission and ask people to donate money. If you would like to take on this one and help us develop this, please drop us a note at: tellers@portlandstorytheater.com

Sorry, but we cannot offer additional free seats to your friends and family.

Behind the scenes opportunities

Creative Sketch We would like to come up with some kind of 60 second (max) piece to ask for money on stage... planned for at the beginning of the show. Do you have some fun ideas? We're looking for out of the box .... Think "Alfred Hitchcock + Bart Simpson" or maybe "Carnac the Magnificent"+"Mae West" If you have cool ideas, please send to tellers@portlandstorytheater.com

Funding Research There are a lot of places that might give us money... but who are they? who is the contact? what's the method of contact? what specifically do they need? We would love love love to have some smart person do some research and help us build a funding calendar for foundations, grants, and other programs that you discover. If you know how to use the interwebs and this sounds like a mystery you could help solve, please run to your computer and send a note to tellers@portlandstorytheater.com

Promoting Shows Online Weeks before a show happens, we need to make postings to several online calendars. It's a tedious but necessary task. If you are internet saavy and have some time to help us out with this. Let us know. It's a matter of working from a list of links, cutting and pasting the text, and posting an image.Send us an email for Online_Promotion here: tellers@portlandstorytheater.com

Building Our Social Media Presence We've got a few social media sites that could use some TLC. Sites like YELP, Pinterest, Tmblr, Flickr. We've got a good presence on Facebook, Twitter, SoundCloud, LinkedIn and YouTube. If you have an interest in building your skills in this area, then contact us. We could use your help. Send us an email to help with Social_Media here: tellers@portlandstorytheater.com
