Psalm 25:4 Show me Your ways, O LORD; Teach me Your paths.

TAUGHT BY GOD

Let's face it, we are opinionated people. We listen to the radio, we read what people write, and we reach certain conclusions. No problem. The problem often arises when we conclude that our opinion is fact. We can disagree when it comes to earthly things like what brand of automobile to buy. There isn't just one way to think when it comes to such things.

It's a different matter if we seek to know God's will and God's truth. We want to be pupils of God and so we turn to Him in prayer and ask: "Show me Your ways . . . teach me Your paths."

God shows us His ways and teaches us His paths in His Word. It is our textbook. If we really want to learn of God, then we will immerse ourselves in that Word. We will also respect His Word as the highest authority and not allow human reason to rule over that Word.

It seems that lots of people today assert that they believe this or that without offering any reason for their belief (other than that they believe it). Our society fosters this kind of thinking, sometimes suggesting that if someone thinks something is true then no
one else has the right to say they are wrong. They say that if someone believes something true, then it is true for them.

How arrogant! The students are the teachers?! Who do we think we are?

God help us instead to humbly come to Him in prayer and ask that He teach us His way. Let's not say: "I believe because it seems right to me," but rather, "It is written, therefore I believe."

When we are taught by God we should be able to say: "I believe this because the Bible says it is so in this book, this chapter, and this verse."

Let it be our prayer that God enlighten and teach us in His Word. Let us humble ourselves before that Word and say no more than it does, nor leave anything out. When we arrogantly think we "know it all," may the Lord Himself humble us so that we return again to our Teacher and His Word.

Teach me O Lord by your Word! Make me your willing pupil!
