Spring has arrived! The hills and forests are turning from white to green and the rivers and reservoirs are slowly rising. Many days are warm enough to wear shorts and sandals, but it’s snowing today and the ski resorts are open for a few more weeks. Spring skiing is a ton of fun! The snow is soft, the weather is warm, and nothing beats an après drink on the deck with friends after a long day on the mountain. Closing day at Monarch and Ski Cooper are fun for the whole family, and this helps us mark the transition from ski season to rafting season.
Here are a few of the things coming up in April.
Kid Fest at Monarch
Come celebrate the end of another great ski season at Monarch Mountain. Free activities for kids include face painting, helmet decorating, egg hunt, interactive snow sculptures, kids’ terrain park challenge, and more! Kid Fest is a wildly popular seasonal event for kids 10 and under.

Kayaks on Snow
Kayaks on Snow is Monarch's signature event. Contestants race head to head, similar to Skier Cross, down a specially designed course featuring berms, banks, and bumps, ending in an icy pond! This is as fun to watch as it is to race. Great sponsors will be on hand to provide plenty of stoke for this unique event.
Date: April 11, 2015
Time: Register at the base of the course 9-10am
Location: Monarch Mountain

Bring your own kayak, PFD, helmet, paddle, and carabineer.
Whitewater Winter Music Series
presents WhiteWater Ramble
Described as High-Octane Rocky Mountain DanceGrass, WhiteWater Ramble (WWR) uses a simple recipe to craft its sound: start with bluegrass instrumentation, add drums, and finish with a boundary-less approach to grassing-up everything from disco house grooves to roots to Americana. WhiteWater Ramble is now on tour behind their second studio release.
$10 suggested donation at the door to support the Whitewater Winter Music Series fundraiser to benefit the Buena Vista Whitewater Park!
Date: April 11, 2015
Time: 8-11pm
Location: Eddyline Restaurant at South Main
Closing Day at Monarch Mountain
Tailgate Party & Cook-off
Celebrate the end of ski season and beginning of whitewater season with Monarch's annual parking lot cook-off and tailgate party. Ski bunnies, ski bums, and lounge lizards are encouraged to whip up their best eats, competing for next year's season pass among other goodies. Contestants will also be judged on decor and spirit, so spiff up your rig and come on up, snow or shine!
This event continues to attract closet chefs from around the region. Bring your appetite!
