Urban Tellers: Revelations
Revelations come in many forms... some take shape when we push past our limits. Others form when we are completely centered. Bold actions and random coincidence meet at the intersection of dreams and destiny. Join Portland Story Theater for an evening with Urban Tellers:
- Tom Frisch, award-winning video producer who likes bicycles, kayaks, music and robots
- Lynn Fitch, development director at the Alzheimer’s Association who has a huge garden, two dogs and chickens in St. Johns
- Lacey Mulford, graduate of theology who has returned to Portland State and is studying theater arts
- Helen Villalobos, artist and writer, retired elementary school teacher
- Karen Landey, digital and mixed media collage artist
- Cathey Armillas, a non-traditional marketing strategist and author of “The 9½ Unbreakable Rules of Marketing”
Urban Tellers showcases are held at Hipbone Studio, 1847 E Burnside. Doors open at 7:00 p.m. Wine, beer (21+) and soft drinks available for purchase before the event, and the storytelling begins at 8 p.m.
Founded by a boy from Brooklyn, Lawrence Howard, and native Oregonian, Lynne Duddy, Portland Story Theater's Urban Tellers is fast becoming the go-to destination for an evening of intimate stories that illuminate the universal through the personal.

Portlanders are passionate about stories. And live theater, and shared experiences. Portland Story Theater shares this passion. All around the country we've all seen that there's a new breed of literary event cropping up and Portland is no exception. Portland Story Theater has been leading the way to create a unique fusion of wit and bare-bone emotion expressed on stage. These performances bring urban culture to life but they are a world away from the strait-laced book reading. The space is intimate, relaxed and invites the interactive ethos of an evening at an open mic. It's a new breed of literary event.
Portland Story Theater is driven by our core values: We are stewards of the oral tradition and authenticity on stage, we are catalysts for community relationships and alliances, and we are advocates for diverse approaches to spoken word arts. Portland Story Theater offers six different programs to promote storytelling. We use a unique collaborative approach to produce shows where people perform stories drawn from real-life experiences. We also offer workshops and one-on-one coaching for people who want to learn how to tell personal narratives.
