As I write this, I am listening to the first song bird I have heard this season. I can't wait for spring but I imagine the cold and wet little bird wants it to come sooner than me.

We concluded what was the busiest weekend in my time at FHS. We went from a Winterfest assembly on Friday to a packed Red, White, and Blue Game with active service people, veterans, and emergency responders. We then presented the Winterfest court after the game. On Saturday we hosted the Regional wrestling tournament until 6:00 on Saturday. We then held a dance for Winterfest. Thank you to all of the volunteers that made the events special for the students.

Most people don't see the inner workings of hosting any tournament, let alone a Regional Individual Wrestling tournament. Dave Walls and LeAnna Perkins work hundreds of hours leading up to the event making sure every wrestler and his/her coaching staff understand the logistics involved. They then recruit an army of volunteers to work the event and make sure they are in the right place at the right time. Jamie Kukal is a perennial volunteer and helps with many, many details. Most schools don't volunteer for State Tournaments because of the hours involved. FHS wants the events held here because we think it makes it special for the kids and we know it brings in a lot of money to the local economy. Dave and LeAnna are always up to the challenge and donate their time to make sure our kids don't have to travel. We may not always be awarded a district or a regional but we always put in for them. Saturday morning was filled with compliments from coaches as they arrived. The event went smoothly and our students and community benefited.

Be Well,
Scott Sherman
