'Food is Special'  
Unique Face to Face event
Monday 11th July, Milton Keynes

A unique face to face for food teachers, school caterers and senior leaders in Special Schools.  The day aims to provide fresh thinking and solutions for food provision and food education in schools for pupils with special educational needs.

Why come?

  • Develop food skills and healthy eating curriculum and adapt food teaching in special schools confidently,
  • Create a whole school food culture and transforming food in your school 
  • Understand what is required under the new OFSTED framework (January 2016)- new wellbeing criteria to achieve good or outstanding
  • Understand the implications of the School Food Standards (regulatory since 2015) for senior leaders, governors and teaching staff.
  • Eating well – practical and nutritional guidelines for children with special educational needs
  • Share inspiring examples of best practice and case studies in classroom practice and school food

Yinka Ewuola –Eagle Solutions Services
Partners of the School Food Champions programme. They are dedicated to empowering schools to take control of their catering services and to integrate food into the curriculum. They are passionate about food and believe food is as much a part of a child's education as reading, writing, computing skills and maths. 
  
 

Tony Mulgrew (Catering Manager) Ravenscliffe High School, Calderdale 
 
Tony joined the Ravenscliffe (SEN from severe autism to behaviour and learning problems) in 2012. Within the first year he had set up supplies from local organic farms and local fruit, vegetable and bread suppliers, gaining nominations for school caterer of the year. In March 2013 they became the first school in Calderdale and the first SEN school in the country to have a Gold Award. He has taken students in school to work with him in the main kitchen giving them valuable life skills, has been part of cooks networks and an ambassador for NHS Calderdale. He supports community cookery demos and other schools. Tony’s drive, passion and willingness to help others he has made such an impact in school food in Calderdale. In May 2014 Tony won BBC Radio 4 food and farming Awards cook/chef of the year. http://www.ravenscliffe.calderdale.sch.uk/
