Tuttobene Milan 2012
The New Glint of Things

Tuttobene is pleased to announce its new exhibition during the Milan Design Week from 17-22 April. This year the presentation will take place right in the middle of the busy and dynamic area of Zona Tortona. Here, Tuttobene presents a selection of more than 25 young design talents who will show their newest work in Milan for the first time.

All participating designers have their own unique style and aesthetics. Nevertheless, there is a strong connection between the methodologies and ideas of the individual works. All the separate designs stem from innovative concepts which are based on newly found combinations of materials and techniques. The collection of works, therefore, provides a primarily positive notion and it hones in on the numerous possibilities which design can offer within the current turbulent time.

Transcience, the project by David Derksen and Lex Pott, can be seen as a good example for this. It shows the beauty of the natural oxidizing process in mirrors. In general, this process occurs randomly. It evolves slowly over time and is regarded as degradation of the material. In this project however, the process of transformation of the material defines the product’s aesthetic. By accelerating and manipulating this process, the Transcience mirrors show the various stages of oxidation in three geometrical patterns.

The New Glint of Things / De Glans der Dingen refers back to the title of a 1983’s publication on design, in which the glint of the moment was found within specific products and design objects. In Tuttobene’s 2012 Milan presentation, design, once again, forms the glint in which solutions and alternative prospects can be found.  The exhibition therefore creates a historical link between two moments of crisis, whilst emphasizing the distinctive power of design.
