1 Corinthians 8:5-6 "For even if there are so&called gods, whether in heaven or on earth (as there are many gods and many lords), yet for us there is one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we for Him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, through whom are all things, and through whom we live."
GOD, OUR FATHER
As we have already seen, there are many beliefs throughout the world about who the true God is. But here the apostle Paul once again affirms that there is only one God.
These words also remind us of why we call God the Father our "Creator" and our "Preserver." This complex world did not come into being because of random chance. God the Father created you, me, and all things through His powerful Word, and He continues to sustain the world He created.
Speaking to the idolatrous people of Athens, Paul proclaimed the creative and sustaining work of God the Father: "The One whom you worship without knowing, Him I proclaim to you: God, who made the world and everything in it, since He is Lord of heaven and earth, does not dwell in temples made with hands. Nor is He worshiped with men's hands, as though He needed anything, since He gives to all life, breath, and all things" (Acts 17:23-25).
In the Athanasian Creed we confess: "So there is one Father, not three Fathers; one Son, not three Sons; one Holy Ghost, not three Holy Ghosts. And in this Trinity none is before or after other; none is greater or less than another; But the whole three Persons are coeternal together, and coequal: so that in all things, as is aforesaid, the Unity in Trinity and the Trinity in Unity is to be worshiped. He, therefore, that will be saved must thus think of the Trinity."
