NEWS FOR CAT LOVERS
===================================

So, Aug. 8 is International Cat Day. Why not
take kitty on a luxury vacation at one of these
6 Outrageously Fabulous Hotels for Pets -

-----------------------------------

Garfield the cat weighs 40lbs! Taken to a shelter in
New York after his owner died, Garfield was probably
fed non-stop kibble in his cage, and with no exercise
blew up into a huge cat who is at risk for many health
problems. He's on a diet now and will be availabe for
adoption...

Thanks to Maggie for sending in this story!

If you're in tune with your cat, you probably know
he loves you, but if you're new to the ways of kitty
love, this article will help you identify how much yours
loves you:

Another death in a parked car in the heat....

Oh great. Another one? When will people wake up
about this? A baby just died in Alabama a few weeks
ago, and now this one more recently in California.
While the death toll for children is up to 24 now,
the numbers are much higher for pets, especially dogs,
left in cars.

4-month-old baby dies after being left in hot car in
California parking lot.

CAT FOOD NEWS
===================================

Latest recalls:

http://www.petsadviser.com/pet-food-recalls/

http://www.catchannel.com/cat-food-recall.aspx

http://truthaboutpetfood2.com/update-dogswell-jerky-treat-withdraw

Among the recalls are these treats:
Dogswell and Catswell jerky treats made with chicken
or duck and bearing a "Best Before" date of Jan. 28,
2015, or earlier are being withdrawn because they may
contain trace amounts of an antibiotic residue not
approved for use in the United States.

Thanks to Maggie for the updates and additional links
to information about this problem.

-----------------------------------

Why is it so hard to find nutritional information for
cats? Here is a free document with some good info:

http://dels.nas.edu/resources/static-assets/materials-based-on-reports/booklets/cat_nutrition_final.pdf

If you right click that link, you should be able to download
the file to your computer.

And here is a good article on the controversy that shouldn't
even exist:

Nice comparison charts for the various cat food brands:

http://www.1800petmeds.com/pet_food_compare.jsp?CID=12330&PID=1000&MID=1435

Just select brands from the list provided and the tool
compares up to 3 products at a time.

TAKE ACTION TO HELP ANIMALS IN NEED
===================================

How to help the animals:

1. http://www.hipaws.com/help.html
Help feed the ones that never got adopted.

Or, the latest one that got dumped off here:
Thanks to Kathy for helping me find her a name!
It's Sable, for her beautiful fur coat!
I'll let you all know when the kittens arrive.
Should be very soon; she's getting very large!

2. Always remember to check with your local shelter
to see what they need. Your donation will go directly
to the animals, in sharp contrast to some of the large
national groups, whose donation income goes toward
large administrative salaries and other expenses, not
necessarily for animals.

3. Buy a book from my book list, if you haven't yet.
Sales are used to support all the cats here. Thank you.
