Hello Firstname

Wednesday 8 July
The highlight of the year, next Wednesday is the Society's AGM when you get the chance see what the BPS Council is up to!
The AGM only takes up a small part of the evening, so the first half of the evening will be concluded with a short AV from Greg Duncan; this is an AV that recently won a medal (for Best Humourous AV) at the recent Adelaide AV Fest.
The second half of the evening will be the annual Studio Group Competition which proved to be very entertaining last year.

Studio Group Competition
Speaking of the Studio Group Competition, at the last count only 4 members had submitted entries. This is extremely disappointing, bearing in mind all the work Nick Ball has put in organising the many and varied studio sessions over the last couple of years. We are about to embark on a major new studio lighting installation costing several thousand pounds, but I have to say I am not too keen on signing off this type of expenditure if the end results are as meagre as they seem to be. So come on, if you’ve attended sessions you must have pictures, let's see them and justify all of Nick’s efforts and our “possible” future expenditure. The closing date is Monday 13th, for full rules and how to enter, please click here.

Bristol Salon
Don't forget that Sunday is your chance to see the 2015 Bristol Salon in air conditioned comfort! Doors open at 1.30 for a 2.00 start.

Caption Competition?
Last week I asked for captions for this endearing picture of Danny and A N Other, the following landed in my In Box:

Gill Peeke - A bad case of Jaundice....

Maureen Gillet - So this is how Pete now looks, after the strains and stresses of achieving our new clubrooms.

And several from Rob Gillet -
"Earthling, I come from a group of stars far, far away - Smethwick"

That wizened visage, those large glassy eyes and the brown furry feet gave me such a fright, and the grotesque on the right was almost as scary.

And my personal favourite, from Rob: "Alright, Danny, I WILL marry you   -   but where's the extension ring?"

Warwick 2015

Film to See
For the last 40 years acclaimed photographer Sebastião Salgado has travelled the world, tracing the footsteps of an ever-changing humanity. He has witnessed and documented many of the major events of our times, taking in wars, famine, genocide and exodus. But now he is embarking on a new journey; to discover pristine territories, grandiose landscapes and wild nature as part of a huge photographic tribute to the planet’s beauty.

Salgado’s accomplished, moving work and his inspirational life are revealed to us in this Oscar-nominated documentary by his son, Juliano, and world-renowned filmmaker Wim Wenders, himself an avid photographer. Powerful, affecting and truly profound, it is not just a portrait of a great artist but one of life itself.
The Salt of the Earth is on general release on Friday 17 July. In Bristol you can see it at the Watershed or you can see a trailer for the film by visiting Youtube.

Thanks to Gotdon Bunney for this.
