Next Wednseday's meeting is Round 2 of the Print Competition organised by Patsy & David Southwell. The judge for this round is Jay Charnock FRPS. Jay is the Chair and Exhibition Organiser of the RPS Visual Arts Group so should know a thing or two about what goes into a good picture. If you would like to see some of the work that Jay does, you can see her successful FRPS panel by following this link.

The print Group meets four or five times a year on a Monday evening. It is organised informally by Graham Reeves and John Chamberlin. It provides an opportunity to show new Print images and to receive advice/comments from Graham and John. Some people are working for RPS Distinctions, others for PAGB awards. Some may wish to enter exhibitions but are unsure of standards etc. Again, if you are having printing problems, it can be an opportunity to get these resolved. Only prints are discussed and it is helpful if these are mounted in some way so they can be easily seen by those present. The group is kept to a manageable size but if anybody is both interested and committed, then please email jgchamberlin@yahoo.co.uk or speak to John at club. If you are not sure who he is, then ask the Chairman, who will point you towards a tall, dark good looking man on the right side of forty. There are not many of those around!! (These are John's words, not mine - I'd never risk telling such porkies! Ed)

As many of you will no doubt be aware, the Bristol Salon holds its annual public showing of the accepted images at the QEH Theatre in Clifton. What we are looking for is someone who would like to be fast tracked to the dizzy heights of Salon Publicity & Advertising Manager (SPAM) or whatever fancy title you'd like. The job would entail doing exactly what it says on the tin - publicising the Salon show and helping to put bums on seats in the theatre. We're not ageist or sexist, so any age or sex would do; in fact a pulse and a GSOH are probably the only qualifications you'll need; that and a desire to join a dynamic and successful team in the high flying world of International Photo Exhibitions.
If you think that this is right up your street and that you have the right talents to bring to the table (or are good at using cliches!), then please either collar me (Pete) at any Wednesday club meeting or email me at salon@bristolphoto.org.uk.

Photo Copyright Floodgates To Open?
|
Amateur Photographer has reported that intellectual property disputes can now be resolved using the ‘small claims track‘ in the Patents County Court (PCC), following a Government announcement of a ‘simpler and easier’ system last month. Photographers can pursue damages for breach of copyright, for up to £5,000, without even appointing a solicitor, unlike before where they may have been put off by a potentially long, and expensive, legal fight.

Buy A Christmas Gift & Help Alzheimers Charity
|
We have received the following from BRACE, a Bristol based alzheimers charity:
...........We are a Bristol based charity raising funds for alzheimer’s and other dementias and every year we put together a calendar of local photographs to raise funds to support our research.
This year we have been very lucky to have been given a number of previously unpublished photographs of Bristol from the 1950’s – 1970-‘s which we have permission to use for our calendar. The calendars are very limited in that we have only printed 600 and there will be no more once we have sold these.
The calendars are very reasonably priced at £5 each including envelopes. They measure approx. 210cm x 300 cm (portrait) and half of each page is the photograph
Mail order calendars are available on our website, our eBay shop or direct from the BRACE Appeal office. We can post 1 for £1 or up to 4 for £2.50. For one you would need to contact me direct as the postage on our website comes up as £2.50 for up to 4 items.
You can also get the calendar from:
Melanie’s Kitchen, Downend
Broadwalk News, Broadwalk Shopping Centre Knowle
The BRACE Appeal Office, Frenchay Hospital (next to Redwood Restaurant)
The Day Hospital, Frenchay Hospital
St Mary Redcliffe Church (in the Shop), Bristol
