Getting that in your face rock vocal sound!
The vocal compression is important. I used an 8-1 ratio with about 10db of compression. The silky smooth sound can be had by using a very fast attack and medium release, with your eq following the compressor. Send a side chain vocal signal through a 200-300 hz high pass filter then into the compressor. This will keep the vocal from pumping on low freq energy and it will sound smoother with higher compression settings. Also, remember to hi pass filter your signal chain at 100hz or so. Too many people just let crap below the range of the vocalist get through for no reason.

I just like playing with all the buttons...and the pretty lights.
I love studio work....you get to be creative and technical at the same time, you get to hang out with rock stars all day (some of us), you get to play on the net and talk about all these fun knobs and lights, you get to play with computers, you get to wire things
But most of all...you get to mess with producers when they ask for more "air".

"Here mr. producer...twist this knob...but carefull..don't wanna blow the convulving capitance inducers"
