Ingleside Terraces: San Francisco Racetrack to Residence Park

Join us for a fascinating evening with local author Woody LaBounty, who will share slides and stories from his beautiful and informative new book, highlighting a city neighborhood with a unique past.
The Ingleside Racetrack, the most opulent horse racing venue west of the Mississippi River, opened in southwestern San Francisco in 1895. The track hosted thoroughbreds, as well as bicyclists and auto racing pioneers. It became a Progressive Era battleground between gambling "turf men" and civic reformers before serving as a refugee camp after the 1906 Earthquake and Fire. In the early 1900's, the track was purchased and became Ingleside Terraces, one of San Francisco's first master-planned residence parks.
