Dear Friends and Comrades,

ANTI-SEMITISM AND WHITE PRIVILEGE?
Human rights activists are accused of anti-Semitism when they speak in support of the Palestinian struggle and the international Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement against Israel. Locally, in an unprecedented attack by the Israeli ambassador and Embassy of Israel in South Africa, the governing ANC party came under a similar attack for its support of the Palestinian people and discouraging of visits to Israel. Click here for a recent article on the topic published in the Sunday Independet and the Middle East Monitor.

SOUTH AFRICA REPRESENTED IN THE UK AND FRANCE THIS ISRAELI APARTHEID WEEK
The 13th international #IsraeliApartheidWeek (IAW) campaign kicked off globally last night in London. At the launch event South Africa was represented by BDS South Africa's Professor Farid Esack who was joined by the #BlackLivesMatter Caribbean-American award-winning poet, educator & social justice activist, Aja Monet. Esack will also be participating in a speaking tour for IAW between 28 February and 4 March in the UK.

In addition Hargreaves Tisetso Magama (pictured above), Former Chairperson of the International Relations Portfolio Committee at the Parliament of South Africa and Board Member of BDS South Africa, will be on a #IsraeliApartheidWeek speaking tour in France between the 13th and 18th of March 2017.

In South Africa we will be joined by Pedro Ferraracio Charbel, from Brazil, who will be on a South African speaking tour as part of this year's IAW in SA (click here or see below). IAW is an annual international series of self-organized events (rallies, protests, lectures, cultural performances, concerts, films and workshops) held in over 250 cities, communities and campuses across the globe. IAW raises awareness of Israel's apartheid policies towards the indigenous Palestinians. IAW is endorsed, in South Africa alone, by more than 105 organizations, trade unions, embassies, youth movements and other groups including South Africa's governing party, the country's largest student formation and SA's largest trade union federation. IAW takes place in SA between the 6th and 12th of March. Click here for info on #IsraeliApartheidWeek.
