Message from our Past President

To all our Members & Supporters,

Another ISA Hamilton season has drawn to a close.  Once again we accomplished the goals that we set for ourselves early in the year and expect to do the same in 2012. We had a good series of dinner meetings which included a tour of a water plant (tours are always a hit!), and a number of enjoyable technical and enlightening talks.  They ranged on everything from energy management to the Modernization of a Municipal Waterworks with SCADA Standardization. Our 2011 EXPO in March was another big success. Keep an eye out for our flyer for EXPO 2012 booked for Tuesday, March 20, 2012. Our tenth annual Golf Tournament went off like clockwork, despite the threat of rain and sub 15 degree temperatures (remember May???). It’s difficult to believe that only a couple of months ago we were looking to warm up “after” a game of golf!

Our first membership/dinner meeting is slated for Tuesday, September 27 and will be held at the ABB offices in Burlington.  Watch for details on our web site and in our newsletters.  Our Membership certainly appreciates the sponsors and vendors that present and help us with these meetings.  Should you have any thoughts or ideas for a meeting, or have an emerging technology that you feel would interest our membership, please let any of our executive know.  We would welcome any new suggestions.

Of course, none of this would be possible without the dedication and hard work of our terrific group of executives that continue to make things happen.  The Section and its activities would not thrive as it does without the enthusiasm of this great medley of individuals.  My hat goes off to each and every one of you – I feel honoured to have been able to serve as President this past year especially with such a great supporting team to carry me along.

I would like to re-introduce you to Kenneth Hamilton who has taken over the reins as Section President as of July 1.  Many of you know Kenneth from his past endeavours including Hamilton Section President and his term as District 13 Vice President.   Kenneth has always stayed closely involved with the Hamilton Section and the Society, even during his 2 year stint in China a few years back.  Kenneth’s knowledge both of our industry and within the Society is a benefit to all.

Please enjoy the rest of the summer with your families and colleagues; we look forward to seeing everyone again this September.

 Sincerely,
  Jerry Gelata
  Past President

President's Message

Dear Members, Colleagues & Friends,

Being a long time member of ISA and in particular ISA Hamilton Section, including involvement on the Executive Boards both at a local and Society level, I am aware of many of the challenges in staying current in the automation industry, and the benefits of ISA membership. I believe our diverse membership and the contributions arising from that diversity is one of the principle resources available through ISA participation. Long time ISA members are cognizant of membership benefits, encompassing networking opportunities at local, national and international levels, informative and timely awareness on new industry directions, and thoughtful substantive standards and practices designed to align and interface the many disciplines involved in the automation profession. Newer members often avail themselves of these resources as they endeavour to build their careers and enhance their professional standing in the automation instrumentation community.

As ISA Hamilton Section begins this new season, I am pleased to be able to work with an excellent new Executive Board blending a track record of reliable past performance with new additions and new ideas, as shown on our updated Executive Board listing on the web site.  In addition to planning our membership meetings and the major events as we have done in the past, I am looking forward to exploring some new avenues for connecting and staying in touch with our membership, many of whom have embraced the Social Media tools available through the internet as a means of creating and continuing dialogue of ideas new and old and disseminating information. Several of these proven tools are recognized as a valuable means in keeping up to date with new developments, and facilitating changes in direction and services beneficial to the membership at large, enhancing the membership experience for all.

As part of our summer planning meetings our new ISA Hamilton Section Executive Board has discussed how we may utilize Social Media to best interact with our members. I encourage you all to contribute your ideas, preferences, or concerns regarding the use of this media to the Executive Board using the contact information on the Executive Board listing on our web site.

Please join me in thanking our outgoing Executive Board for their time, effort, and willing participation in providing a very successful past season for our ISA Section.

Best regards,
  Kenneth Hamilton
    President 2010-2012
