Wednesday 5 March

Next week our speaker is BPS member, David Grierson, when he will present his talk - Judges don’t like them but the athletes and media buy them. This is what David has to say about the evening:

January 2023 was the date my genre of photography changed. The fact that my portrait prints that won photo club competitions didn’t even qualify for Salons gave me the impetus to find something new. The world of Parasports came rushing in. Firstly Amputee Football followed by various Wheelchair sports.
Totally motivating this bilateral amputee. My images were recognised by ParalympicGB who granted me accreditation to work at the Paris Paralympic Games. Tonight will be about illustrating the commitment and determination Para athletes show to complete in sporting events around the globe. My website parasportphotos.com set up to illustrate my work in June 2024 has now had over 20,000 hits, my images continue to be bought by media from around the world.

Below are a couple of David's images from the talk:

PSA Print Competition - Round 2
Following last week’s individual results we have now received the year to date standings after the first two or three rounds.

Un-surprisingly, Loveland PS (USA) are leading in four of the five competitions as they sit out round 3 which they are judging (they had a double entry this time to make up their entries) – so their scores are in effect the year-end target for us to beat
Smile. What is more astonishing is that we lead the Creative section with only 2 scoring rounds whilst they have three – a tremendous achievement.

So the individual standings are:
  • Creative / Altered RealityBPS 1st with 183 points, 29 points ahead of the Evolve Group, fellow participants from the UK
  • Large ColourBPS 3rd with 168 points, 15 points behind the Evolve Group and 5 points ahead of the next ranked club – Loveland are first on 215 leaving a target of 47 required to overtake them in round 3 which should be surpassed with ease.
  • Large MonoBPS 2nd on 176 points, one point ahead of the next club.  Loveland PS are only 10 points ahead, so are out of the rating as far as year-end positions are concerned (round 3 comprises 6 images each scoring up to a max of 27 points!)
  • Small Colour – BPS 3rd with 168 points, 4 points behind Evolve Group and 6 ahead of our next rival.  Loveland are 20 points ahead of us.
  • Small Mono – BPS 2nd with 166 points, 3 ahead of Evolve Group.  Loveland have set a target to beat of 52 points, having an effective year-end total of 218.
The next round deadline is 15 April, so watch out for calls for prints early in March to give time for post to Colorado USA.
