They say everyone has a secret; this obviously applies to camera clubs as well as individuals! What is our secret? I hear you ask; it's one member of the Society who hitherto has remained unseen by all, namely next week's speaker David Cooke ARPS EFIAP. David will be giving us his talk called The evolution of an RPS Associateship Panel and Beyond which will take us from his first ideas and visions for his ARPS panel through to the different images taken for the project and ultimately to the panel itself. If you'd like to see more of David's work, you can visit his website at www.davidcookephotography.co.uk

BPS vs Reflex Camera Club
|
Last Thursday members of BPS travelled across the city to the previously unexplored lands called St Annes, where the Society took part in a "battle" with Reflex Camera Club. Both clubs provided 20 images that were judged on the night by Peter Weaver from Hanham. Peter provided an entertaining insight into his past as a judge as well as giving his comments on each of the 40 images and then awarding them scores out of 20. At the end of the evening BPS came out on top with a winning score of 366 compared to Reflex's score of 331.
Many thanks to those members who let Pete McCloskey have images for the night: Barry Mead, Greg Duncan, Peter Smith, Jeff Hargreaves, Val Duncan, John Chamberlin, Ann Mead and Derwood Pamphilon. All images did well with a healthy smattering of 18s and 19s, but the star of the night was Val Duncan who had the only perfect score (20) of the evening.

PSA Interclub Creative Image Competition
|
The first round of the PSA Interclub Creative Competition has now been completed and BPS finished top of their group with a score of 73, beating the 2nd placed club (West Cumbria Photo Group) by 11 points with South Shields Camera club coming a distant 3rd with 55 points. It is interesting to note that of the 13 clubs in our group, the first 3 were English. Not content with coming first we also had 4 members who won awards:
Jim Marsden |
Avenue Acer |
Val Duncan EPSA |
The Tooth Demon |
Barry Mead |
Venetian Dance |
Greg Duncan PPSA |
How Do I Change The ISO |
The next round will soon be upon us and Barry Mead will be looking for more images, the more whacky and off the wall the better: please send any images you think might be suitable directly to Barry at barrymead@blueyonder.co.uk. Images should be the same dimensions etc. as entries for club competitions.

We're still looking for images, ne'er a reply to last wek's plea. Come on you lot, we're supposed to be a photographic society based in Clifton, there must be someone out there with suitable images!
Andy Marker is starting to put together the title images for this year's Bristol Salon presentation. In the past we have used the Suspension Bridge logo that is on the BPS Handbook as a background to the opening sequence. This year we thought we might try something a bit different and use an image of Clifton terraces (West Mall would be good) or the bridge viewed from the Cumberland Basin and maybe including the gorge side leading up to the Clifton Hotel; we would then hope to use one of the images, suitably faded, to act as the background to the opening titles. If you have any images you think suitable, please email them to me at chairman@bristolsalon.co.uk
