Next week we welcome James Rushforth to BPS with his talk Exploring the Italian Dolomites and Iceland with James Rushforth – an unexpected career in photography and guidebook writing.

In this talk James describes his unexpected and fortuitous journey into outdoor and adventure photography and writing; from first picking up a camera in 2012 to his success at the British and International Photography awards just a decade later. James’ transient lifestyle, moving between the pale mountains of the Italian Dolomites to the wilds of Iceland, has led to the creation of three photo-location guidebooks, showcasing his images and providing cultural and local information for visitors to his adopted regions.
The presentation follows his natural progression from adventure to landscape photography, focusing on the logistics and creative nuances of both.

James is a climber, mountaineer, skier, travel writer and guest speaker. An internationally acclaimed photographer and author who has worked with distinguished publishing houses Rockfax, Cicerone Press and FotoVue. James is amongst the world’s most awarded photographers, and was the Travel Media Awards Photographer of the Year in 2022, GTMA Global Travel Award winner and British Drone Photographer of the Year in 2020, the British Guild of Travel Writers Photographer of the Year in 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2022, a double category winner at the International Photography Awards in 2018, and Epson Digital Splash Photographer of the Year, also in 2018.

Based in the UK, James spends much of his time exploring the Italian Dolomites and Iceland, where he has authored a number of books to both regions. He has partnered with Wild Photography Holidays to lead specialist photography workshops to the Arctic, Greenland, Iceland, the Faroe Islands, Romania & Italy.

DI Group
DI (Zoom ) Meeting – Monday 13 March, 7.30 pm
Last month we had a magnificent selection of images of various genres presented to a gathering of about 25 members with the usual interaction as and when something of specific interest came up. Andrew Whettam, a long distance member from Cheshire, showed his landscapes from Scotland and Alaska where he climbed up mountains and rode in helicopter to get some stunning landscapes, which we don’t often see, as they are hard to reach for many of us. Colin Dixon followed that up with his favourite subject of portraits in different styles – colour, mono under challenging lighting conditions followed by a blend of creative images with his own established style. Last month we had a quick selection of John Hudson’s images from Egypt and this time he showed a few more with stories behind them. Rachel Domleo has been exploring abstract compositions and developing her unique style of creative photography which is doing well in club competitions as well as salons. She talked through the process of creating those images which I am sure could help others to create something different. It was a very enjoyable evening, seeing what fellow members are doing, having constructive chat about certain images, all in an informal atmosphere and getting a few ideas at the end of the evening.

If you wish to show them in a specific order, please prefix filenames with 01, 02, 03 etc. Email attachment size - max 20Mb per email, as many as necessary. You may also use WeTransfer or Dropbox if convenient, but I am not equipped to receive by direct transfers from Google or Apple Mac systems.
