Hello Firstname
Wednesday 29 May
Next Wednesday BPS welcomes Spike & Penny Piddock (both DPAGB AFIAP) from Dorchester with their presentation A Wet Night In. The evening includes an audio visual by Penny of photographs taken while snorkelling at various locations and Spike will present digital images of life under the sea whilst deep sea diving all around the world.
The evening promises to be one not to miss with subjects that we don't normally see at West Mall and could well remind some of the older members of past TV underwater favourites, Hans & Lotte Hass.

Help Needed
What follows is a request for help from one of our newer members, David Alderson:
Lens Query
Later this year, I’m going on a “big” holiday to Australia and New Zealand and, in anticipation of this, I’m thinking of buying a new fairly all-purpose lens.
My camera is a Canon 450D.  The lens that came with it is the EFS 18-35mm f/3.5-5.6 IS which I’ve already had to have repaired.  I have two other Canon lenses: the EFS 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS and the EF50mm f/1.8.  Recently, I’ve been making most use of the f/1.8 and trying to get used to taking pictures without a zoom.
The Canon EFS 17-85 f/4-5.6 IS is affordable at about £330 and seems to offer what I may need in terms of focal length for landscapes, buildings, kangaroos and so forth.
I’d be grateful for any advice about this lens or suggestions for alternatives.
If you can help David, please reply directly to him at  dalderson@btopenworld.com

Trumpet Blowers' Corner
If you want to blow your own trumpet or, dare I say such a thing, blow someone else's trumpet for them, then this is the place to do it. Please let me know and I'll include it in the next issue.
