Unless the LORD builds the house the builders labour in vain

Dear Friends,

This is our last building update this year as well as a newsletter to bring you up to date with what’s been happening and our thoughts about next year. The main bit of news is that the foundations and the basement of the House of Prayer are complete. The work is done! On Monday 11 December the builders swept and cleaned the inside of the basement and sealed it up for the winter. It looks amazing!

When I (Mark) looked out of the window of our house the other day and saw this beautiful structure, which has more than 500 tons of concrete and 3.5 tons of steel in it, I just wondered and thought, “God, how did this happen?”. Back in August it was just a piece of grass and now I’m looking at the completed foundation of the Prayer House! What we’re seeing is the Prayer House come into reality.

Here’s a photo of the completed Prayer House basement taken from the balcony of our house. The steps at the front are for the entrance to the Prayer House. You can see some of the basement windows (covered in orange mesh) on the left of the building, and the wood and plastic on the platform are there to protect the stairs going down to the basement. The Prayer House is 13m x 15m and will be on 3 levels. There’ll be a few more pictures at the end of the letter.

First we want to say something about the financial miracle that has taken place as well as to say THANK YOU to everyone who has given so amazingly generously to help establish what God wants to be done here.

Back in June we heard God say “Now is the time to build”. Then we had just over a third of the money needed to build the foundations and the basement. People kept asking us how we were going to raise the money and we said we didn’t know. All we knew was that we wanted to see God’s hand in it. We heard God say that He would “stir people’s hearts” and that He wanted to see who would “partner Him” in building the Prayer House. So we thought we’d simply let go and watch Him do it!

There are not many people who know about us. God has kept us in a hidden place and much of what happens here is by word of mouth. Also, our newsletter doesn’t go out to many people, so we needed a massive financial miracle. The amazing thing is that the money came in! The builder said he would email his 3rd (and largest) invoice at the end of November, but we were short by a certain amount. He actually forgot to send it and we eventually got it on the 7th December, one day after we received a significant donation that covered the outstanding balance. Isn’t God wonderful! We paid the invoice with almost nothing to spare. God provided the exact amount that was needed. He was showing us that He was in control.

I (Mark) had a dream about this. I was in the Prayer House. A certain lady had given us a large number of oil paintings to look after. The paintings didn’t have any frames around them and they were all different sizes. She knocked on the door of the Prayer House and wanted to check they were all there. I invited her in and showed her the paintings. They were all hanging on the walls, but they were facing the wall so you couldn’t see the pictures, only the back of the canvases. She was relieved that none of them was missing.

When I asked the Holy Spirit for the interpretation, He said that the oil paintings were the financial gifts for the Prayer House. The lady was the Holy Spirit. All the gifts were given because of her. Each painting was unique and personal, a reflection of the person who gave it. The paintings were all facing the wall. They were not for show and were not meant to be seen by others. The beauty of each painting was not seen outwardly but was imprinted onto the structure of the walls. They were now a part of the walls of the Prayer House. The lady was relieved that no painting was missing, so every gift was important and necessary.

So what’s next?

We feel from the Lord that Stage 1 is complete. It’s finished. And with it God has established the spiritual foundation of the Prayer House. So that’s also finished, sealed. We’ve felt the spiritual atmosphere shift around us. There are 2 more stages to complete the main building works. Stage 2 is the ground floor walls and ceiling, which will bring the building to about 4.5m above the ground. And Stage 3 is the upstairs walls, ceiling and roof. That will include a massive steel frame to support the roof.

With each stage we feel God wants to establish something in the Spirit. So as the physical building goes up, so does the level of anointing and grace. It’s like the water level rises!

Of course all this depends on the timing of the Lord and the finances. At the moment our feeling is that we’ll start to build Stage 2 in the spring / early summer. We’re hoping that this will flow directly into Stage 3. Let’s see. We’d greatly appreciate your prayers that we would know exactly when to move. We want to be totally aligned with heaven and God’s purposes for Auschwitz-Birkenau. At the moment the builder is expecting to start at the end of March, early April when the weather warms up, but we think God might be saying to start a bit later in May, early June.

Now for some more photos!

First one of the inside of the basement, taken with a flash because the windows are covered up and it’s pitch black inside! You can see the builder and Karen (our friend) standing in the light that’s shining down the stairs. We’re standing about 1.7m below ground. The 2 supporting poles are “just in case” there’s a heavy winter snowfall.

In the next photo you can see us standing on the entrance steps to the ground floor of the Prayer House. Cathy’s adjusting my cap trying to make me look presentable!

In the last photo we’re standing on the concrete platform that will eventually become the ground floor of the Prayer House. You can see Auschwitz-Birkenau in the background. It’s really cold out there!

Finally, THANK YOU to everyone who has supported us, prayed for us and visited us in 2017. It can sometimes be a very quiet existence here as we live out our lives in this little Polish village by Auschwitz-Birkenau. Your visits are always a blessing and encouragement!

We wish you a blessed Christmas / Hanukah season, and every blessing for 2018.

With love,
Mark & Cathy

A one minute illustrated newsletter!

Dear Friends

Today is the first clear sunny day we’ve had for weeks. So we thought we’d take some pictures and give you a quick visual update of our beautiful building - a work in process!!

Here you can see the progress so far. All the main concrete structures, the foundations, the outer walls and internal support walls, are complete. Here you can see the basement ceiling being prepared for a concrete pour. The black lining on the walls is a combination of waterproofing, thermal insulation and protection.

To protect the basement walls (which will be underground) there are 4 layers of black specialised rubber-based waterproof paint (6 mm thick), followed by large blue styrofoam tiles to provide thermal insulation (15 cm thick), and a final layer of thick polyurethane foil around the outside.

This is an improvised tent to allow work to continue when it's raining!

Here’s a photo of the “river” flowing around the foundations. Everyday the water has to be pumped out. This will not be a problem when the water table drops and we’ve put the earth back in around the building.

We’ve added a special reinforced ceiling / floor for the big lounge area on the ground floor. This can cater for groups up to 50 people as well as those who want to jump up and down and dance (!!). The whole area will be poured over with concrete.

Here you can see the rest of the ceiling / floor areas of the house - lots of steel rods tied together, getting ready for the concrete pour.

Finally here is the view from the “ground floor living room” - that will be! The prayer room will be one level higher.

That’s all for now. We hope you enjoyed the pics! We hope to send out another update at the end of the month.

Don’t forget to check out facebook page from time to time: https://www.facebook.com/WorshipPrayerHouse/ .

Please feel free to write to us. It’s always nice to hear from you!

Love and blessings!
