The New Year brings with it promises to do better, whether it is to eat better, lose weight, start a new business, or try to actually do what we promised ourselves that we would do from the previous year.  But really, how “new” are the things we add to our list each year?
I have learned long ago not to live according to the clichés that sound good to the ear, such as “out with the old and in with the new.”  While ideally this is what we want to do, if we never commit to doing the old things, there is no need to add anything new to our lists in the New Year.  Granted, we may start off fully committed to making the changes and doing the things that are on our lists, but somewhere along the way, we lose steam, interest, or cannot seem to actually figure out what it is that we should do to get started in the first place.
When it comes to resolutions and intentions of new things, promise yourself that you will not find yourself with recycled old “new” stuff this year.  In other words, stop making the same promises every year – do something about it!
Take a moment to look over that “to do” list of promises and ask God what it is He would have you to do.  Perhaps it is an old dream that is buried so deep that you only see glimmers of what could have been.  Maybe it is something you put aside during a stormy time in your life and you are afraid to pick it back up.  No matter what caused you to abandon your dreams and your passion to wane, GO BACK AND GET IT!
Understand that there is purpose and promise in you and the Lord has need of you. Out with the old and in with the new?  Most certainly, but not in the traditional sense; out with the old “new” stuff, and in with the dreams God birthed in you long ago.  The world is waiting for you!
