Next week we welcome Cate Barrow to BPS with her talk on UK Wildlife Images.
Cate is a Director in an Environmental Company but a keen wild life photographer and underwater photographer. She also runs a small Hedgehog rescue with a team of vets. Two of her images have been awarded highly commended in the Mammal Society photographic competition in 2023 having been awarded the same in 2020.
|
|
She has also been a runner up in the British Wildlife Photographer of the year and one of her owl images is in the final round this year. She travels abroad several times a year particularly to Finland and for diving. However she has a great network of UK locations where she photographs some of our iconic wildlife, The talk will demonstrate some new techniques as well as some rare and wonderful wildlife.
This is a return trip to BPS for Cate, as she gave us a Zoom presentation last year, which was very well received.
|
You can visit Cate's website at www.catebarrow.co.uk where you will be able to see more about Cate and a selection of her images.

One thing that was mentioned by this week's print competition judge, was the need for entrants to use the correct adhesive tape when fixing their prints to the mount board. Things like masking tape and shiny parcel tape shouldn't be used as they have a habit of peeling off or curling when in a box with other prints and leaving sticky deposits on the print next to them - these types of tape should be used for precisely what their name implies: masking paintwork or wrapping parcels. Care should be taken to always use tape that is made for the job, plenty of which is available from local craft/art shops, Hobby Craft and even Amazon.

BTW Trip To Downside Abbey & Shepton Mallet Prison |
Last Tuesday, seventeen intrepid BPS photographers travelled down the A37 to Downside Abbey and Shepton Mallet Prison for a Beyond The Wall outing. A grand day was had by all and I suspect that everyone attending was secretly hoping that David and Ken will be selecting churches or prisons for the next prescribed competition subject! Thanks to Mike Hall for organising a wonderful day out.
Below are a few snaps of members at work creating their masterpieces: |
