2 Kings 6:15-17 And when the servant of the man of God arose early and went out, there was an army, surrounding the city with horses and chariots. And his servant said to him, "Alas, my master! What shall we do?" So he answered, "Do not fear, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them." And Elisha prayed, and said, "Lord, I pray, open his eyes that he may see." Then the Lord opened the eyes of the young man, and he saw. And behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.
ANGELS WATCHING OVER ME
Ever been surrounded? Maybe by a gang of bullies after school? It's a scary thing to be surrounded by those who wish to do you harm? That's how Elisha's servant felt when he stepped outside one morning in the town of Dothan. The Aramean army tracked down the Prophet Elisha and had him surrounded. Elisha's servant was in a panic. "What shall we do?" he cried out.
From road accidents to street violence to weather related threats, we're surrounded by many potential dangers to our physical well-being. What comfort we gain from Elijah's words to his servant: "Do not fear, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them." Elisha was referring to God's mighty angel army. As the hymn writer assures us: We "walk with angels all the way." It's amazing how often the Bible comforts us with the truth that God's angels are truly watching over us. We really have the best body guards in the universe.
As we thank God for giving His angels charge over us, we also thank Him for THE ANGEL OF THE LORD. In the Old Testament THE ANGEL OF THE LORD almost always refers to the Son of God, to Christ before He took on our human nature. Unlike ordinary angels, THE ANGEL OF THE LORD wasn't created. Christ is God, without beginning. Whenever we are surrounded and feeling defeated by our sin and guilt, we take comfort in Christ, that one person army, Who conquered sin, death, and hell for us sinners.
Thank you, Lord, for your perfect protection of body and soul!
