On Wednesday 2 October our speakers will be Sue and Richard Winkworth, who will be presenting their talk called Home and Away. I'm sorry but I have been unable to get any further information other than the following, which I have nicked from the Kingswood PS website. The talk consists of a series of Audio Visual Sequences featuring travel - Russia, India and the Artic and local - the Kite Festival, Shaun the sheep and Dismaland.

The "Beyond the Wall" group is under new management - not necessarily better management as David is a hard act to follow. Please be patient with me to begin with as I have loads of ideas, it is putting them into action that is taking the time. Here are a few I am planning for the future:-
- Model Photography, not the living breathing kind!
- Monitor and lens calibration demonstration et al.
- Drones
- Away days / Visits
- Equipment demonstrations
We shall begin with a visit to Leigh Woods on Sunday 6 October, 10am in the car park. Fingers crossed but I am anticipating a plethora of fungi, wildlife and perhaps the beginning of autumnal colour. Tripods, macro lenses will be a must for fungi, the rest is up to you.
I will keep an eye on the weather nearer the time, but what is a little rain to put us off!
Colour Confidence are happy to do a visit on 12 November (Tuesday) to run through colour calibration/workflow. This is advanced warning to help with drumming up interest as we will need to recoup a £75 charge to cover the guy's expenses - the more who attend, the cheaper per capita it becomes.

Architectural Photographer of the Year - Organised by The Museum of Bath Architecture and Bath Preservation Trust, this year’s competition will have three categories with two new themed categories:
Architecture of Entertainment
From ancient amphitheatres to then multiplex cinema architects have been designing entertainment spaces for thousands of years. This year we are setting a challenge for photographers to capture images of architecture, interior or exterior, that have an entertainment theme, be it the Sydney Opera House or the Theatre Royal.
Bath: After the Georgians
Most people who come to visit Bath are here to see the Georgian city. However, as the city has expanded and developed over the years, so too has its architecture. Even within the centre you can find the odd 1960’s brutalist building and as you travel further out of the centre great examples of Victorian and Edwardian styles can be found. What can you find? What buildings old or new catch your eye?
Junior architectural photographer of the year
Open to photographers under the age of 19. We want to see what architecture inspires you? What do you prefer old buildings or ultra-modern? What’s the coolest building you’ve seen?.

Well done to Graham Pears who recently attended an awards ceremony and viewing of the BWPA (British Wildlife Photography Awards) in London. He didn’t finish up on the podium, but did get a Highly Commended for his image of Juvenile Peregrine chasing Bumblebee, which is pretty amazing. Consequently, it is included in the exhibition at Mall Galleries, off Trafalgar Square, SW1 – only a short run, ending Sunday 1pm – and will also appear in the book “British Wildlife Photography Awards 10”, Ammonite Press.
Salon acceptances: BPS photographers are now achieving large numbers of salon acceptances and constraints on time and space mean we can't include them all. So please only advise of awards or other milestones.
Contrary to popular belief, I do not possess psychic powers and need you to tell me if you've had successes. If you want to blow your own trumpet (or someone else's), then this is the place to do it. Please let me know and I'll include details in a future issue.
|
If you have anything to sell, or you're looking for something to buy, just let me know and I'll include it here. Please bear in mind, we only advertise items for BPS members.
|
