Jude is currently enjoying a mini-sabbatical, travelling via Russia, Mongolia, China and Australia to Bali, and then back to the UK.

However, while she can’t write her usual introduction, we’re assured that she is checking out animal life en-route and will be bringing back many pictures including roos, koalas and dogs – and who knows what else she might have spotted?

Jude’s pix will appear in future newsletters and our social media over the coming weeks and months, hopefully a few stories too, so watch this space.

Please contact us at jude@veloce.co.uk with any comments or points you’d like to make: we’d love to hear from you!

Uh-oh … look "Woo's" here …
Worzel Wooface is back … THREE CHEERS FOR WORZEL!

Whilst we may only have one new book to talk about this month, what a book it is! Three Quite Very Actual Cheers for Worzel Wooface! is the third instalment of Worzel's continuing diary, and has been eagerly awaited by pretty much everyone …
If you're not acquanted with the literary lurcher Worzel Wooface, then let us enlighten you …

Worzel Wooface was adopted from Hounds First Sighthound Rescue and his life mission is to eat every shoe his Dad owns. He's tolerant of the five cats who live with him, but his favourite is Gandhi, who he considers to be an honorary lurcher.

As well as writing books, Worzel blogs, and writes a regular column for his local newspaper. He's a champion for rescue dogs and considers himself a Rescue Ambassador, promoting the joys and challenges of second-hand dogs.

He can usually be found upside down on any bed other than his own, often with one of his Dad's shoes that he's looking after. And licking. In 2016, Worzel won a Heroes of Dog Fest award.

This book covers Worzel's third year. And what a year it is. Worzel and his family campaign to save his favourite beach … he goes on his first foreign adventure … has to contend with a ball obsessed labrador … and a foster brother who needs teaching the ways of the world.

The book is written in Worzel's own inimitable style, and is packed with unique Worzel Wisdom, as well as poems, photos, stories, letters, and top tips for all dogs. And their owners, of course.

If you've not read one of Worzel's books before, then 1) where on Earth have you been, and, 2) you're in for a real treat!

Of couse, when you're this fabumazing, you're bound to get noticed, and Worzel recenty came to the attention of PETA Prime's Jasper Bossyboots, its roving canine reporter. Jasper is a retired racing Greyhound, who's owner, Alisa Mullins, is a PETA staffer. Jasper contacted Worzel, who agreed to a quite very hactual hinterview. As Jasper recounts:

"I are a fuge fan of Worzel's, so I was terribibbley hexcited when he hagreed to answer my kwestions about being a sellerbberty dog and the challenjes of being an awthor what can't read or rite."

It's a great hinter … interview, and an excellent insight into Worzel's life as a literary Lurcher. You can read Worzel's interview with Jasper on the PETA Prime website, here: https://prime.peta.org/2017/09/canine-author-worzel-wooface-an-eyebrow-is-worth-a-thousand-words

If all that Worzelese was wetted your appetite, then we have four fantastic volumes of Worzel wisdom for you to choose from … take a look, get some wise words from Worzel Wooface, and you too could be less 'bogged off' and 'confuddled' than ever before. Worzel also has a very special childrens' book, beautifully illustrated by Chantal Bourgonje, and especially written to give children an understanding of how dogs think and feel. Here's the whole Worzel collection so far … click the covers for more details.

Scout's Grand Day Out at Buckham Fair
Here in Deepest Dorsetshire, we're no stranger to country fairs, and this August, Scout the Lurcher attended one of our favourite events: Buckham Fair. Needless to say, he was a big hit with all who attended …
Buckham Fair, held near Beaminster, not far from H&H HQ, is the brainchild of actor Martin Clunes, who, after buying one of the few pieces of flat land in the area, realised it would make the perfect location for an old-fashioned country fair.
The idea of setting-up an event for the benefit of the entire community, both close and far, to have fun, and raise money for local charities, must have been fate, as Martin and his family have since found that the holder of the land also had an Ancient Charter to hold a fair each year!

We won't give away too much info here, as our blog post tells you more, but Scout, and his owner Tracey Ison, went along to this year's fair, and – unsurprisingly to all of use here at H&H – won the hearts of everybody there … and in particular, a certain Mr Clunes himself.

You can read the full post, here, but we thought we'd just say a big congratulations to Scout and Tracey, and we look forward to next year's Buckham Fair … see you all there!

For the love of Scout
Promises to a small dog
