Luke 8:2 Mary called Magdalene, out of whom had come seven demons
MARY MAGDALENE: OUT OF CONTROL
This summer our upcoming Vacation Bible School theme is "All Power in Earth and Heaven." We will talk about many different miracles which demonstrate both our Lord's power and love to care for sinners. The story of Mary Magadalene is not one of them. Very likely simple because that account is not recorder for us in the gospels other than this one sentence.
Yet what do we have here? A lady with a terrible problem about which she can do nothing. Think how terrible it would be to completely out of control unable to do anything about it, to be completely at the mercy of demons. Think how wonderful to be saved from this fate.
Only we don't need to imagine, we are not in any better situation than Mary. The only difference is that we so often trick ourselves into believing that we have more control over our lives than Mary did. Let's see born in sin, indifferent and selfish heart, all our greatest righteousness no better than dirty rages, whether controlled bodily by seven demons or so deeply entranced in selfish sin that we are incapable of any thought beyond ourselves, we all need the same thing. A savior to give us back what we threw away.
