When you take a gift out of its box, the last thing you want to do is read the instructions. This is the way a lot of people treat sex today. Who needs to read God's instructions about sex? But who knows best? Who can speak about sex with authority? How about the One who created it?

SEX IS GOD'S *

Genesis 2:18, 21-25 The LORD God said, "It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper fit for him." ... So the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon the man [Adam], and while he slept took one of his ribs and closed up its place with flesh. And the rib that the LORD God had taken from the man he made into a woman and brought her [Eve] to the man. Then the man said, "This at last is bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man." Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh. And the man and his wife were both naked and were not ashamed.

It's important to take some time to understand what God says about sex because He created it. Before anything else, sex is God's. And He has a very clear plan for how we use His gift, just as He did for the very first couple. The problem we run into is thinking we get to write our own instructions when it comes to what we think about sex. It's been well said, "I would rather stand with God and be judged by the world, than stand with the world and be judged by God."

God reminds us that it isn't just sex that belongs to Him, but because He created us, we are His possession also. We are His children whom He loves dearly and forgives even after we disobey Him! God's Son, Jesus Christ, paid for all our sins, just as the Apostle Paul says, "For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God's" (1 Corinthians 6:20).
