Newsflash: Fifteen Knitting Kit exclusive!

... NEWSFLASH ... Fifteen Limited Edition Knitting Kit Exclusive ... NEWSFLASH  ... Win a Limited Edition Kit ...

 Easy Tiger greetings to you

We're sending you this exclusive S&B London newflash to invite you to enter a quite frankly freaking fantastic competition, and to announce the release of some bits of exclusive kit you'll be clamouring to get your filthy knitting paws on.

Fifteen is Jamie Oliver's flagship restaurant in London's Shoreditch. It's the place where every year 15 disadvantaged young whipersnappers are shoved into the kitchen and turned into apprentice chefs, which changes their lives in all sorts of lovely ways. Their four restaurants around the world are also part of a mission to inspire global entrepreneurship in young people, as well as teaching them to rustle up some wicked grub.

What's all that got to do with knitting and what can I win? We hear you ask. Well...

Introducing the fabulous Fifteen Knitting Kits!

The usual journey from field to fork has taken on a different twist at Fifteen. The flagship restaurant in London is launching a limited edition knitting kit just in time for Christmas.

What's so special? What’s unusual about the knitting kit is the yarn. It is a blend that features the finest wool from the restaurant’s Welsh lamb supplier Elwy Valley. It’s the first time Elwy Valley’s cross-bred lambswool has been used in this way and the idea came about after a discussion between Fifteen’s marketing manager, Angela Morris, and Daphne Tilley of Elwy Valley.

Ooo. Tell me more. Angela explains: “Elwy Valley are a long standing supplier to Fifteen, our apprentice chefs visit every year to understand more about the husbandry and supply of lamb. It’s always a highlight. This is a novel way of bringing this connection to life which will also give people the chance to have a go at knitting too. Whether you are a novice or experienced knitter you should find the patterns of interest."

And the knitting and Fifteen link is? Fifteen is all about passing on new skills and experiences to our apprentices, staff and customers. We like to inspire people to realise their own potential whilst having some fun at the same time.”

The Limited Edition Fifteen Knitting Kit includes:
  • Sustainable wooden needles
  • Patterns to create your own scarf, beanie, tea/coffee cosy and egg cosy
  • Three balls of very lovely lambs wool

It is available in two colourways: pink and grey or brown and purple

Nice stuff to know: The wool is Elwy Valley crossbred lamb, blended with Manx and Hebridean wool to make the beige and grey respectively. The pink and purple dyes are organically accredited dyes.

Kits are priced at £23.00 online at their shop

All profits go to The Fifteen Foundation (charity no.1094536), the charity that owns our flagship restaurant in London and which pays for the unique apprenticeship scheme.

So how can you win?

You lucky S&B Londoners are in with a chance to win one of two limited edition Fifteen Knitting Kits absolutely free.

All you need to do is answer this question:

Which of these lines is not a quote from Jamie Oliver:

a. Stop being a vegan and start enjoying what you eat.
b. Cor blimey, I'm hungry. I could murder a plate of turkey Twizzlers and some Happy Faces.
c. Bash up the thyme in a pestle and mortar and add a couple of good lugs of olive oil.

Drop us an email at with:

  • The subject line "Easy tiger, I just want a pukka knitting kit"
  • Answer A, B or C
  • Your full name, email address, and contact phone number (if you have one)

The deadline for the competition is Monday 12th October at 10am. The 2 winners will be picked (by our amazing winner-picking herd-scented tiger) from all correct entries, and notified by email within 48 hours.

Please note: yarn, cake or four-course dinner bribes and a ride of a moped are not accepted. Just pick your answer, email us and let the nature take its course as the winners are chosen. Good luck!

Competition rules: 1. One entry per person. 2. Competition ends Monday the 12th October 2009 at 10am. 4. Winners will be drawn from all correct answers, and notified within 48 hours via email. 5. If winners don’t reply with addresses within two weeks of closing date then new winners will be chosen. 5. No cash alternatives. 6. Kits can be collected from us or will be posted to the winner.

If you don't want to leave it to chance you can also buy the kits at Alexandra Palace's Knitting and Stitching Show. They will be sold on The Little Knitting Company stand, located in the Grand Hall, number O2. The Stitchettes will be around on the Sunday too so keep an eye out for us and come and say hello. :)

The Stitchettes are also stupidly excited to be holding a special Learn to Knit event at Fifteen for the apprentices and some of the Fifteen staff. We promise to report back and take lots of photos of the fun.

If you want to know when the next S&B London meeting is you can see all of the usual news and meeting times in last week's newsletter. The next one is due out on the 12th of October.

And all if that wasn't enough you can sit back with a nice cup of rosie and watch this video of Jamie dressed as the Village people strutting his stuff to tempt the American people into watching his show. Lovely jubbly.

Pukka stitching, lovely Londoners.
