Hello, Firstname
Please note: if you forward this newsletter to other people, you must remove the unsubscribe information from the email you send to them. If you do not, and one of them clicks on the unsubscribe link, it is YOU who will be unsubscribed. It can be found at the foot of every newsletter.
This is the last newsletter before the New Year, so the newsletter team would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a wonderful Christmas and a Happy New Year, and look forward to seeing you all again in 2024.
Pete & Carol

Wednesday 20 December

December 20 is the second highlight of the year (the first being the AGM, of course) - the BPS Christmas Social. Each year, there’s the hope that some of the newer members may come along, but to be honest, they rarely do, which is a shame, as it’d give them, as well as the ‘oldies’, the chance to mingle over a sausage roll or two. Just turn up (usual time-ish), armed with something to eat or drink. No need to go overboard, as it’s very casual with everything being laid out buffet-style.
Sorry, but Pete & I will be away and we'll miss it, so you'll just have to try and have a good time without us!

Carol

Digital Imaging Group
DI Group (Clubroom/Zoom) Meeting – Monday, 8 January 2024, 7.30 pm

The December meeting in the clubroom and on zoom was once again well attended. We managed to squeeze in five fascinating presentations which I will review in the next newsletter.

The next DIG meeting is on Monday 8 January. Rachel Domleo has kindly offered to demonstrate Affinity Photo software which quite a few of members use as their main photo editor. The whole meeting will be dedicated to the demonstration and therefore I am not inviting any other presentations for January. Other members who have a copy of Affinity Photo software sitting on their desktop unused may like to join to explore its potential.

The demo will be in the clubroom as well as on zoom. 13 members have signed up for it so far and everyone is welcome to attend - it's free! Please let me know if you wish to join the meeting, especially if you plan to come to the clubroom so that I can make appropriate arrangements for the coffee break.

Wishing you all A Merry Christmas and best wishes for the New Year.

Bristol Salon 2024
Something to do when you get fed up (literally and metaphorically!) with mince pies, the rellies are getting on your nerves or you've seen The Magnificent Seven just once too often - put together your entry for the 2024 Bristol Salon. This is open to all members.

For those of you who aren't too sure what the Bristol Salon is: it is an international photographic exhibition that has been running since 1947 and is the largest exhibition of its type in the UK attracting entries from across the world.

Entrants may submit up to 12 projected images and 12 prints across the three sections (Open, Monochrome & Nature) in each category. These are put before a panel of selectors who pick the top 25% or so to be accepted. Entry for BPS members is free. Please note: photography course and distance members will have to pay the full fee.

This is your chance to dip your toes in the murky world of international exhibitions - and it is FREE! Here's hoping that we see a rush of entries, but in the meantime if you have any queries, feel free to email Ralph at chairman@bristolsalon.co.uk

The closing date is 28 January.

Full details can be found on the Salon website https://bristolsalon.co.uk

Trumpet Blowers' Corner
Well done to Suzanne Allen and Sue O'Connell on recently gaining photographic distinctions.
  • Suzanne was awarded BPAGB, being the newly created Badge level in the hierarchy of PAGB awards.
  • Sue gained her MPSA, being Master level in the PSA's ROPA awards.
Masters of Print
Well done to Ralph Snook, Peter Brisley and Derwood Pamphilon who have all had prints accepted in this year's Masters of Print exhibition. This is a pretty mega achievement as only 60 prints are accepted from nearly 1400 prints submitted from across the UK.
Salon acceptances: Contrary to popular belief, I do not possess psychic powers and need you to tell me if you've had successes. If you want to blow your own trumpet (or someone else's), then this is the place to do it. Please let me know and I'll include details in a future issue.

Marketplace
If you have any photographic items for sale, drop me a line and I'll include it in the next newsletter. Please make sure that you provide contact details, price and full description of the sale items (pictures always help).

IMPORTANT: Personal Detail Changes
Please don't forget that if you change your address (home or email), or gain additional photographic distinctions, it would be appreciated if you could let the Membership Secretary know so that she can keep her records up to date, this will also ensure that you continue to receive your newsletters - please email all changes to membership@bristolphoto.org.uk

The distinctions we have on record are those shown at the top of this newsletter, please remember, if you don't tell us we can't possibly know!

DO NOT REPLY TO THE NEWSLETTER.
