FREE SOD
Work will be taking place on the baseball diamonds in upcoming weeks...
and a limited supply of sod is available (about 500 ft. sq.).  The only catch is that the recipient will have to rent a sod cutter and have the sod cut and removed by October 13th.

This batch is well established and located where concrete will be poured for dugouts.  The area will be marked with spray paint.

If you are interested in removing the sod, contact Richard Sorensen by replying to this email or by calling 801-791-7004.
Movie Night In The Park On The BIG Screen POSTPONED due to frigid Temps:
The town was able to purchase the large Movie screen from the stage of Valley School...

The screen will be placed on the stage in the park and we will plan on hosting one more movie night this fall to unveil the new screen.

We were going to have the movie this Saturday evening, but will tentatively postpone it until Saturday, October 17, 2009 at 7:30 PM, weather permitting, and will hope for slightly warmer conditions.

The movie will be selected at a later date and will be announced at www.HuntsvilleTown.com and via the Town email list.  If you have suggestions for a family friendly movie, please reply to this email with your suggestion.
Meet The Candidates Night a Success
The Meet The Candidates Night was held Tuesday and was an overwhelming success...

Thanks to Gail Ahlstrom and her son Taylor.  Gail spent countless hours cleaning up, arranging and decorating the Old Valley School library so the venue was not only useable, but very elegant.

Also, thanks to Texas Pride BBQ who donated the drinks and provided the refreshments for the event.

And thanks to Valley Principal Tommy Lee for allowing us to use the facility.

Lastly, thanks to all who participated.

The Green Waste Facility will reopen on Wednesday evenings beginning October 14, 2009... to accommodate residents with their fall clean up.  It will be open on Wednesdays from 6:30 p.m. to dark and Saturday's 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Weed Eradication and Mowing:
Per the recently passed Weed Eradication resolution and our nuisance ordinance, our town tractor will be available during the next few weeks to mow and/or trim your weeds, pastures, etc.  The fee, which includes both tractor and driver, is $45 per hour with a one hour minimum.  The minimum is simply to make it worthwhile to transport the tractor to your location and you are welcome to combine jobs with your neighbors if you wish.  Most 3/4 acre lots can be mowed in 1 hour or less.

Call the town hall at 745-3420 to schedule your mowing.
Recycling Program To Begin In November:

Recycling Program To Begin In November

During the September 3rd town council meeting, the council voted in favor of a town wide curbside recycling program.  The decision was not easy and was the culmination of months of research and a survey with more than 50% of the town’s residents responding.

First a recap of the events leading up to the September decision.  In early June, residents who are on the town email list were asked some questions regarding participation in a recycling program.  In ensuing weeks and months, a large portion of the email recipients had responded with the majority overwhelmingly in favor of such a program.

The idea was formally presented to the town council in July and was mentioned in the August issue of the Gazette.  On August 6, 2009 a public hearing was held to allow input from the public.  Everyone who spoke at the hearing spoke in favor of the proposed recycling program.  Additionally, about 90% of those surveyed at the time were in favor of the program.  However, some of the council members requested more town input before coming to a decision.  The idea was tabled until more citizens could be surveyed.

At that point a group of  residents offered to survey their neighbors in an attempt to get a larger sampling for the survey and they presented their findings during the September 3, 2009 meeting.  The survey results showed that 50.4% of the residents had responded to the survey.  Of those respondents, 85.8% were in favor of a recycling program while 90.3% were either in favor of or indifferent to the proposal.  After a lengthy discussion, the issue was voted upon and our program will begin in November.

Implementing The Recycling Program

  • Econowaste will begin delivering new blue recycling cans in mid October.  The cans will be similar in size to our current trash cans.
  • The first pick up date will be November 2, 2009, then every other Monday after that.
  • Regular trash pickup will continue every week with recycling picked up ever other week.
  • Effective with the November billing cycle, an additional $4 will be added to your bill for trash services (our new rate including recycling will still be less than those outside of town pay for trash pickup from other companies)
  • The fee for a second Trash can will likely be increased, so be sure to contact the town hall at 745-3420 to make arrangements to return your second can in early November if you wish to no longer be charged for  two or more garbage cans.  If you wish, you may return your extra can(s) to the east side of the town hall, then call to inform the town that your can has been returned.
  • After six months, the town’s trash dumping expenses will be reevaluated.  If we are receiving considerable savings, then the recycling rates will be revisited with the savings being passed on to the residents, i.e. the rates will be decreased.
  • Timely updates will be available at www.HuntsvilleTown.com , via the Huntsville Town email list and via the Gazette.
  • We recommend you hang a copy of the Recycling List on your fridge and next to your trash cans.
That's All For Now - Have a nice week,
