Hello Firstname

Wednesday 18 January
Wednesday 18 January sees a visit from landscape photographer Sarah Howard, who will be presenting her talk - An Image Seen: Successful Landscape Photography. Sarah is a successful landscape photographer who has written books, contributed to many publications and runs photographic workshops. You can see a couple of Sarah's local images below, but to see more of her work, visit her website at www.sarahhowardphotography.com

New Club PC
Following my plea in Issue 219 Extra for suggestions for image viewing software on the new club PC, I was inundated with responses (all of which, surprisingly, were polite!). There were many different suggestions, including Adobe Bridge, Picassa, FastStone and more. I looked into all of these and after a couple of "over the phone" tutorials, decided that Windows 10 Photo would probably fit the bill. We will use this, but if it proves to be unsatisfactory we can revisit the suggestions made and seek a suitable alternative.
Many thanks to all who responded.

JUST A WEEK TO GO FOR FREE ENTRY TO BRISTOL SALON
If you want to qualify for free entry to this year’s Bristol Salon, there is only ONE WEEK left. The closing date is 21 January. After this you will have to pay the full fee, which is between £11 and £20 depending on how many sections you enter.

Details have been in the last few editions of the newsletter, so I won't repeat them again, however you can find full details, plus help with entering, by visiting the club website.

When entering, be sure to tick the box on the first page of the entry system to say that you are a BPS member and fill in your BPS membership number which you will find at the top of this newsletter; when you get to the payment page at the end, click ALREADY PAID.

BPS members (of all grades an abilities) usually do pretty well in the Salon, so here's hoping that we see a rush of entries. In the meantime if you have any queries, feel free to email me at chairman@bristolsalon.co.uk

WCPF Members' Exhibition

The WCPF Members' Exhibition opens for entry on 18 January with a closing date of 4 March. This is a competition for individuals who are members of WCPF member clubs. There are 3 print sections, Monochrome, Colour and Nature. In the Projected Image class, there are 3 sections - General, Nature and Creative. The entries are judged and the selected images will be exhibited later in the year at Bovey Tracey Golf Club followed by a two-day exhibition at the BPS clubrooms.
More details on the WCPF website
The closing date coincides with WCPF Council meeting on 4 March and our representative, Danny Heaton, will be able to take your entries with him. If you have any queries you can contact Danny by email danny.heaton@btopenworld.com or you can collar him at any meeting.

Dates For Your Diary
20 January David Kjaer will be giving a digital image presentation talk entitled Highlands and Islands – Scottish Wildlife, at Kingswood Photographic Society on Friday 20 January (7.30pm). As the title suggests the talk covers Scotland's Highlands and Islands and will be looking at the birdlife and habitat plus a few mammals to be found in Speyside and Deeside as well as on Islands like the Bass Rock, Craigleath, Handa, Hebrides and Skye.
For further information about David Kjaer and to see some of his images, you can visit his website at www.davidkjaer.com. BPS members are warmly invited to this presentation: the cost for this evening is £3.00 and will be at their usual meeting place, St Barnabas Church Hall, Warmley, Bristol BS30 5JJ.

The WCPF Knightshayes Trophy is nearly upon us and members are invited to enter. The competition is organised by the WCPF and members may enter up to two prints (mounted on 50 x 40 cm card) on the subject "Diffraction". The closing date is 5 February when prints should be handed in at DPIC in Exeter. Some BPS members will be going to DPIC (see above item) so it should be fairly easy to organise for the prints to be taken down. More details can be found here.

Trumpet Blowers' Corner
Salon acceptances: BPS photographers are now achieving large numbers of salon acceptances and constraints on time and space mean we can't include them all. So please only advise of awards or other milestones.

Contrary to popular belief, I do not possess psychic powers and need you to tell me if you've had successes. If you want to blow your own trumpet (or someone else's), then this is the place to do it. Please let me know and I'll include details in a future issue.
