Read Psalm 73:1-17
PERSPECTIVE: A VIEW FROM THIS WORLD
Everything that we have talked about this week is difficult for us to keep in mind. We say it. We tell it to others, but when it comes to living it in our lives that is something else. We so quickly forget and act in accordance with an earthly view instead of a heavenly one. We look from this world outward instead of from heaven downward. We see the manner in which "normal" people live and act and how supposedly happy they are and we think maybe they have it right. We see the methods that the ungodly use for getting ahead and we think that is what we need to do. What we see with our eyes is more real to us than anything else, yet what we see with our eyes is not truth. Rather, only when we see with God's eyes can we begin to comprehend.
One of my favorite verses in Isaiah is 52:15, "So shall He sprinkle many nations. Kings shall shut their mouths at Him; For what had not been told them they shall see, And what they had not heard they shall consider." This is the mystery of God. What man cannot see or comprehend on his own, God has declared to him. It is so hard for us to deny what we have seen with our eyes. We say, "This is the way the world works, you see these people are happy, they live great lives, why should I not be like them?"
Pray that the Lord might, like the servant of Elisha, open your eyes. Pray that the Lord might, like the psalmist, open your eyes to see things for what they are; to see not from a perspective bound to earth, but one bound to heaven; to see beyond appearances to the heart of the matter; to see the mighty arm of God, the salvation of our Lord at work in, through, and upon all things; and to live with that view always at the forefront of your mind; to learn and remember the power of God and the love of Christ.
Pray that the LORD might change your perspective.
