DI Group - Monday 14 February
Next Monday is the monthly meeting of the DI Group, which is being held on Zoom:
All BPS members are welcome to join the Digital Imaging Group meeting next Monday. It coincides with Valentine’s Day but hope you will still be able to join the meeting – we will still be on zoom.
I should clarify that it is not a requirement to submit images to join the DI meetings. You are welcome to sit and watch the proceedings if you wish. We have had some inspirational speakers in the club recently. It will have stimulated you to develop a few ideas of your own and if you already have some images you may want to share we would love to see them on Monday. Or if you would like to have comments from fellow members on your images or have questions on aspects of digital imaging please feel free to share them in an informal atmosphere.
Please send your images to me by 6pm on Sunday, 13 February. Images: JPG format, sRGB colour space, 1600 x 1200 pixels (same as competitions but not strict), prefix filenames with 01, 02, 03 etc. if you wish to show them in that order. Email attachment size - max 20Mb per email as many as necessary.
I look forward to seeing you on Monday.

Bristol Salon Judging
To All BPS Members

The selection for the 2022 Salon will be taking place this weekend (12/13 February), from 9.30ish each morning.

Colour and Mono will be selected on Saturday and Nature on Sunday - members are welcome to attend to observe on both days. Please wear masks when arriving and moving around, and ideally, also when sitting. Please do not attend if you have any Covid like symptoms.

It will not be possible to observe the Mono selection as this selection will be taking place in the upstairs room which has very limited space and we want to limit the number of people in that room for obvious reasons. Colour and Nature selection takes place downstairs in the main room, members can observe this in same manner that has been done in previous years.

Please note, members attending on either day are recommended to bring their own refreshments as, at risk of sounding mean, we cannot feed visitors. If you are coming along and do not arrive before then, please be as quiet as possible when entering the building and taking your place.

Please do not park in front of Unit 13, this area is reserved for selectors' and helpers' vehicles. There will be a limited number of spaces available at WEX.  The area in front of their delivery bay can be used initially.  Please make sure that space elsewhere is available for WEX customers and that access is not restricted.

Thanks, and let's hope for a good weekend.

Ralph

Amateur Phototographer Of The Year 2022
The following is from Mike Martin:

Following my individual 4th place last year, I may give it a go again in 2022!  However, it should be noted that Launceston won the CLUB award (and cheque for £500) with 490 points. Bristol PS should be well placed to blow that out of the water if members get involved....

Entrants score between 100 points for winning down to 10 points for making the top 50 images in each round – and for the club ranking the scores from each person that declares themselves as a club member are added together. With just 5 people in the top 50 in all rounds, we’d have 500 points!

FIAP Biennial - Call For Entries
From time to time, FIAP hold a number of international competitions where countries compete at a national level.

You may recall for the last one (colour) the PAGB asked for creative portraits and minimalist landscapes.   Whilst none of our members were represented in the Minimalist print entry, Mike Martin and Barry Mead each had 2 images selected as part of the 20 image entry representing England in the creative portrait PDI competition.  Although England only managed came 22nd, Barry picked up an individual Silver Medal.

Representing your country is a great opportunity so why not pick some of your best works on any / all of the themes (you can submit up to 4 images for each section) to be considered for selection.
REMEMBER this is a THEMED competition, so it may not be the best images individually that get chosen but instead those images that work best together (there are marks for cohesiveness within the entry).

Members can enter individually, via the PAGB entry system detailed in the attached.

Trumpet Bowers' Corner
Salon acceptances: BPS photographers are now achieving large numbers of salon acceptances and constraints on time and space mean we can't include them all. So please only advise of awards or other milestones.
Contrary to popular belief, I do not possess psychic powers and need you to tell me if you've had successes. If you want to blow your own trumpet (or someone else's), then this is the place to do it. Please let me know and I'll include details in a future issue

Items For Sale
If you have any photographic items for sale, drop me a line and I'll include it in the next newsletter. Please make sure that you provide contact details, price and full description of the sale items (pictures always help).

IMPORTANT: Personal Detail Changes
Please don't forget that if you change your address (home or email), or gain additional photographic distinctions, it would be appreciated if you could let the Membership Secretary know so that she can keep her records up to date, this will also ensure that you continue to receive your newsletters - please email all changes to membership@bristolphoto.org.uk

The distinctions we have on record are those shown at the top of this newsletter, please remember, if you don't tell us we can't possibly know!

DO NOT REPLY TO THE NEWSLETTER.
