From the Church Guy
I might have to tell my twin granddaughters this one in a couple of years:

A little girl was saying her nighttime prayers with her mom.  She blessed every family member, every friend, and every animal she could think of.  And then the little girl concluded with the words, "And all girls."

Her mom asked her why she added the part about all girls.  She said, "Because everyone else always finishes a prayer and says, 'All men.'"

Preach it, sister.  As Paul wrote to the Galatian church, "There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus."

                                                                         Amen, and all girls,

                                                                         Father Mark +

 Teen Pizza After Church
The youth group has one more get-together before the school year ends.  It's going to be Sunday, June 1.  Father Mark, Eric, and Sabrina will provide the pizza at 11:30, after church, and the kids in grades 7-12 will provide the appetites.

And we now have a date for this summer's Ramp-It-Up weekend.  We'll be building a wheelchair ramp on Saturday, July 12, so save that weekend!

Take Me Out to the Ball Game
It's not too late to sign up for Episcopal Night at the B-Mets.  The area Episcopal churches are going to NYSEG Stadium on Friday evening, June 13.  Game time is 7:05, but get there early enough to see our Bishop, the Rt. Rev. Skip "Down-the-Middle" Adams, throw the first pitch.

It's always a good time.  You still have a week to sign up.  Tickets are $7 each, and the money should be given to Father Mark.

 2014 Graduates
Madeline Arnold  After attending Chenango Forks for Middle School, then Seton Catholic Central for most of high school, Maddie is graduating from Binghamton High School (with her life-long love of "change" intact)!  She has been able to attend high school in the mornings during her senior year, and then attend SUNY Broome in the afternoons, to get a jump-start on college.

Maddie spent most of her free time on her equestrian activities, training and competing in Hunter, Jumper, and Equitation events.  She has also played soccer, and recently has become excited about her modeling opportunities.  Her career goal is to work for National Geographic, educating people in various parts of the world on ecosystems and environmental issues.  As such, she was thrilled to be accepted into the Marine Biology program at the University of Hawaii at Manoa, where she begins her Freshman year in August.

Maddie will miss her St. Mark's family, and Mom and Dad are grateful to everyone who helped to shape her values and beliefs, of which they are tremendously proud!

Bethany Bertram is graduating from Chenango Valley High School.  During high school, Bethany excelled in science and art classes.  She was a member of the Cross-Country running team for 4 years, and received the STAC Senior Sportsmanship award.

Bethany has been as acolyte since 2006 and has been active in the Youth Group and its outreach programs.  (She even helped her dad build the foundation of the house Fr. Mark and Paula now own!)  She also enjoys volunteering at Lourdes Hospital's Physical Therapy Department.  Bethany plans on attending Onondaga Community College in their physical therapist assistant program.

Dan Gridley is graduating from Chenango Forks High School.  His academic achievements include making high honor roll throughout high school, and being named academic all-star in both golf and basketball.  Dan has been a member of the golf team for 6 years, and was a team captain for the last 2 years.  He played basketball at the high school level for 5 years, and was co-captain this year.  He has also been a member of the concert choir, Math Club, Student Government, and National Honor Society.

Outside activities include playing the guitar, working at Chenango Valley State Park Golf Course, and volunteering at Binghamton General Hospital in the Physical Therapy Clinic.  Dan will attend Elmira College in the fall, where he will study Biology and play on their golf team.  He hopes to become a physical therapist one day.  Dan loves his St. Mark's family, especially all the great volunteer opportunities he has been able to participate in.

Another Year of Church School Comes to an End.
I can't believe another year has come and gone already!  We have been blessed with a wonderful group of lively, inquisitive children, and dedicated, caring teachers.   Heartfelt thanks go to Erin Kasmarcik, Arden Meier, Kate Abbey, Shanna Laroussi, Diane Pierson, Caroline Thomas, Mandy Black, Heather O'Connor, and Chris Sweet for their commitment to our children.

Regular classes will go through June 22, and on June 29 we will have a year end mini-party! Watch the bulletins for summer session plans.

We will try for another overnight for Kindergarten thru 3rd grade on Friday, June 20 - the last one was cancelled.  We will have dinner - a cookout, weather permitting, play games, work on an outreach project, and watch a movie.  Children will need to bring a sleeping bag, pillow, pj's, toiletries, a food item for dinner or snack, and one parent.  A sign-up sheet is on the bulletin board.

 You Look Good in Red!
Sunday, June 8, is Pentecost, the celebration of the gift of the Holy Spirit by Jesus to his people.  We enjoy the custom of wearing red on that day...it's our liturgical color.

(Speaking of how we dress for church, remember that you are always welcome to come as you are, whether dressed formally or informally.  The occasional Hawaiian shirt worn by some of our members gives a cheerful and welcoming picture to newcomers.  And remember that we do use air conditioning on the hot days, so if you get chilly with a/c, bring another layer.)

Interfaith Service of Blessing for the LGBTQ Community
Temple Concord on Riverside Drive will host the annual "People of Blessing" interfaith service on Wednesday, June 11 at 7:00 p.m.  The service blesses and affirms people of all sexual orientations and gender identities from a religious perspective, and is intended for LGBTQ people and their friends and allies.

Our Rector will be present to join in the customary concluding blessing by all the clergy who attend.  The gathering will include music, readings, speakers, and sacred clowning, and also a time of silence in memory of those who have died from AIDS.  Light refreshments will be shared after the service.  You are all welcome!

 St. Mark's Table in June
Those who attend St. Mark's Table find it a relaxing evening of food, fellowship and worship.  Our June Table will be on Tuesday, June 17, at 6:00 p.m.  As always, we begin with a shared meal (bring your own place settings and a dish to share for the meal).  We sing together after we eat, and we conclude with a simple table Eucharist.  (We don't have St. Mark's Table does not meet in July or August.)
