NEWS & ADVENTURES of a thoughtful heart songstress mama | April 2016
~ The Amanda West Music Newsletter ~
Have you noticed the trees lately? The buds unfolding, the way the leaves grow... I had the pleasure recently of seeing one my most favorite musician artists in concert - Loreena McKennitt, and in doing so was re-discovering some of her music. In her version of "Down By The Salley Gardens" (a W.B. Yeats poem put to music ), I heard this line I'd somehow never noticed before. "She bid me take life easy as the leaves grow on the trees..." How beautiful! Nature is indeed one of our most important teachers.
And I know I certainly need reminding of how to take life easy when it always feels so full! My, how the leaves are growing these days... Here are the latest blossoms in my life:
- ALL MY ALBUMS ARE ONLINE!!!! -
I can't believe it's finally happened, and I can't believe it's taken SO long. But all my albums are at last up online for your listening/downloading pleasure. Hooray!
Ok, actually the last 2 tracks on the latest EP, "More Than Anything" aren't quite there. One is a Sarah McLachlan cover, and I'm working on the licensing rights (anyone happen to know Sarah?), and the second, "Hello & Goodbye" was originally released as a live version, but we're polishing up a studio version to go online. Which by the way, is sounding sooo beautiful, I can't wait for you to hear it.
~ THE HUMAN RACE ~
I'm joining many other passionate and big-hearted folks in the Human Race this year to help raise funds for the Santa Cruz Mountains Art Center where I teach after-school music classes and summer camps. It's supposed to be a run, but I'm a songwriter, not a runner, so I'm putting a twist on it and offering the proceeds of any of my music purchased during the month of April towards the Mountains Art Center fundraiser. Please watch this 45 second video I made (well, really Pete made it), and buy some music to help support a great cause! Of course if you prefer, you can just donate directly here: www.fundraise.humanracesc.orgfundraise.humanracesc.org Thank you!!
~ DANCING VOICES CONCERT MAY 7th~
Santa Cruz Area Folks, mark your calendars! I'll be sharing a few of my own songs in the YALA LATI Spring Concert, Mother's Day weekend. Yala Lati is a women's global music choir directed by the very talented Heather Houston. Kevin Dinoto will be there on percussion, and a portion of the proceeds will benefit the ARTEMIS PROJECT, which works to empower young girls. I hope you will join us!

~ MAMA MUSICIAN RETREAT ~
Also coming up in May, I'll be leading a daylong retreat for mothers who are also musicians, and if you know any, please direct them here: www.mamamusician.com. I'm having a wonderful time connecting with women all around the globe who are traversing similar terrain as I often find myself in, and I feel the seeds unfolding...
~ AT HOME ~
I continue to lead singing circles (looks like I might be leading one at the Song Village, here in May!) and to teach music lessons in voice, guitar and songwriting. I'll also be offering two music camps this summer at the Mountains Art Center. Details are here or on their website. You can also write me for more info.
We've made the big decision to NOT tour this summer, and instead stay home and record new music. It was a challenging decision to come to, as I deeply love touring and performing. However, I am also SO excited about the opportunities this leaves for recording and making available music to far more people than we could ever reach in our little mini van tour bus...
Technology and The Internet - we love it and we hate it. For now, it's a primary way I can stay connected to so many of you, and for that I am very grateful. Perhaps you can download a few of the new/old songs, and take them with you for a listen as you walk and watch the leaves grow on the trees... I'll be right there with you.
with love and light and song,
