Dear Macro members,

I am thrilled to report our 2011 Student Honorarium winners!

Benward Honorarium winner:
Neal Facciuto, University of Nevada-Las Vegas. Student of MACRO member Nolan Stoltz.

Neal Facciuto is a very bright and talented composer. His harmonic and rhythmic language is interesting to listeners and challenging to performers. Three of his works will be presented on the UNLV's NEXTET concert series. Neal joined the University of Nevada-Las Vegas after graduating with honors from Eastern Oregon University. As a teaching assistant, Neal teaches theory and musicianship, gives private composition lessons, serves on the jury committee, organizes seasonal concerts, and assists the head of composition, Virko Baley. Neal is a leading student at UNLV, and will graduate in May with a Master's degree in Theory/Composition. He has already been accepted to several doctoral programs and will begin those studies next fall.

Fountain Honorarium winner:
C.J. Freeman, Sierra College. Student of MACRO member Bill Carmody.

C.J. Freeman was named Sierra College's "Outstanding Music Student of the Year" last spring, and it is easy to see why. As a performer, he is also currently at the top of his class in theory is an impressive composer. For his final composition project last semester he composed, scored and performed a solo for Alto Saxophone and band, which he plans to expand into a concerto. C.J. is currently the section leader in the school wind ensemble, symphonic band and jazz band. He also performs chamber music and is studying piano. C.J. plans on devoting his life to the study, performance, creation and teaching of music. C.J. is also very active in the community and donates his time and musical skills in various ways. He helps the band director at a local middle school with section rehearsals and tutoring - which has expanded into giving private lessons. He also plays with the Auburn Community Band.

Congratulations to both of our winners!
