Kayak Moving Water Weekend - Dartmoor
19th to 21st November 2021
A great opportunity for those who want to make the step up to moving water kayaking or improve their skills.
The weekend will be run in and around the Dartmoor area of Devon, with the Pengelly Centre in Buckfastleigh (www.pengellytrust.org) providing our accommodation and base.
Trip Information
- The cost of the trip will be £55 per person. This included accommodation and breakfast.
- For £5 extra you can add an evening meal which will be a main and dessert making the total cost £60.
- Any boat hire costs can be discussed with individuals if required.
- Participants are responsible for their own transport down to Devon although SSWAC will put people in contact with each other to arrange car sharing where possible.
- There must be an adult attending who is responsible for the wellbeing and behaviour of any participant under 18 when not on the water. This may be a Scout Leader, nominated adult or non-paddling parent/guardian
Pre-requisites
It is recommend that you have completed the British Canoeing Explore Award or can paddle to a similar standard as well as having attended one of our moving water skills sessions at Godalming before applying to attend this event as a new comer to moving water.
There are opportunities for an introduction to moving water, formal training, personal development sessions and for those that are experienced simply a fun trip.

COVID-19 and Nights Away
Due to the nature of this event there will be some strict requirements to safeguard all those that attend from COVID-19. There will be an expectation that:
- ALL those attending complete a Lateral Flow Test prior to leaving home for the event, and when they return home. If a positive result is given prior to leaving home you will be expected to remain home and NOT attend.
- Anyone over 18 will be expected to have been double vaccinated. We will consider individuals that are not double vaccinated on a case-by-case basis.
- Participants follow the government guidelines in relation to keeping yourself and other safe in relation to COVID-19.
SSWAC look forward to seeing the applications for the course come spiralling in having not been able to run this event for the last 2 years we can’t wait to get back onto moving water with you.
