"This is an album that creates its own world, one where the hand-built organ she plays employs branches and car exhausts to forge a unique sound" 4/5 Mojo

Behind the release of her Mojo Magazine Top 10 of 2012 selected album WE BECOME OURSELVES, Rebekka Karijord brings her dynamic and magnetic live show to Union Chapel in London. A special show as part of The Henry Willis Organ Restoration Project, the evening will see her integrate the church’s organ into her live set. The Henry Willis Organ shall be a natural compliment to the music as We Become Ourselves is layered with organs, including rich church organ recorded at Nesodden Church in Norway.
  • Rebekka Karijord Plays Union Chapel on 16th July alongside Bedroom Community, Linnea Olsson and Small Feet.

Filmed & edited by Valerie Toumayan, WATCH Rebekka’s stunning live show from Kägelbanan, Stockholm :
Built in 1877, the Henry Willis Organ at Union Chapel is the only existing organ of its kind in the UK and remains virtually unaltered, either mechanically or tonally since its construction. With help from the Heritage Lottery Fund and other donations, esteemed London venue Union Chapel has restored the historic instrument to its former glory, securing its future for generations to come.

The organ will officially be launched on 14 July 2013 and Union Chapel is hosting a week of special concerts to celebrate. In a first for a mechanical organ, the programme will see the instrument performed in styles rarely attempted before, bringing the historic organ into the 21st Century and showcasing just how musically versatile it can be.
More Praise For ‘We Become Ourselves’

"a whole load of talent" Mudkiss

“It's an ambitious project – especially considering it's the first half of a conceptual whole – but this is hard to fault when Karijord delivers with such maturity and grace.” The Skinny

Born in Sandnessjøen, just south of the Arctic Circle in Northern Norway, Karijord began playing music at an early age, her experiments with piano and violin later influenced by the diverse tastes of her mother – which included strong female figures like Janis Joplin, Patti Smith and Sheila Chandra – and her father, who favoured the likes of Neil Young and The Rolling Stones.

If her 2009 debut, The Noble Art Of Letting Go was an album in which she found her voice, her second album, We Become Ourselves, is arguably the finest of her career to date – Karijord has crafted a record of unforgettable, eerie magic as epic and peaceful as the Northern Norwegian landscape into which she was born. From the disembodied, ghostly voice that opens the album (‘Prayer’) to the haunting piano line with which it ends (‘Bandages’), it tugs forcibly at the heartstrings, its songs packed with a unique and astonishing mix of tenderness, joy, heartache and drama that reflects her personal childhood story.
