Hello Firstname

Wednesday 1 October
Next Wednesday is the beginning of the 2014-15 competition season with Round 1 of the Projected Image Competition. This week's judge is Graham Hodgkiss ARPS MPAGB APAGB AFIAP. Graham is from Broadway in the Cotswolds and is a member of Cheltenham Camera Club.

News from the Council Chamber
At a meeting of the BPS Council this week the topic of club competitions, and in particular the awarding of cups, was discussed. It was decided that instead of cups being awarded on the night of the competition, they will, in future, be presented at the AGM. Certificates (only) will be presented on the night. Following the AGM, cup holders will then hold the cups until 3 or 4 weeks before the next AGM when they are to be returned, this will enable them to be engraved ready for presentation at the next AGM.

Library
Don't forget the book bargains of the century! Following Mike Bigger's clear out of some of the older books from the BPS library, there are still a large number of  books to be disposed of; these have been placed on the window ledge at the rear of the clubroom.

These books are FREE to anyone who wants them but (yes there is always a catch!) please leave a donation of at least £1.00 per book for club funds.

Competitions to Enter
If you were at last Wednesday's meeting you will have seen a series of pictures by Michael Krier recording a hedge laying competition in the Cotswolds. Well, now's your chance to have a go yourself (taking pictures, not hedge laying!) by entering the 2014 Somerset Hedge Group Photographic Competition - Hedgerow landscapes through the seasons. Full details can be found by visiting their website at http://www.somerset-hedgegroup.org.uk/

Things to Photograph
Castle Combe - Motor Racing
Saturday 04 October 2014 - Grand Finals Championships Race Day
The climax of the season of the Castle Combe Championships. With titles to be won there is sure to be an enormous cloud of ‘red mist’ descending over the drivers of the FF 1600, Saloons and GT drivers. This meeting has a real Formula Ford flavour with the Formula Ford Carnival, the Luna Logistics Classic Formula Ford Championships and the HSCC Formula Ford 2000 Championships. Add in the single seater Monopostos (probably the fastest race cars of the year) and you’ve got a thrilling and nail biting end to their Championships. For full details, please click here.

Marlborough Big & Little Mop Fair - 4 & 18 October
Known as the Big mop and Little Mop, the Mop Fairs were granted to the town in line with a charter from King John in 1204 where agricultural workers would come to be hired. Now hosting a funfair that takes over the town, the Fairs are one of the highlights of the year. Visit their website for further details

Warminster Vintage Bus Running Day - Sunday 12th October 2014
Recreating a bygone era of public transport in West Wiltshire and beyond when 30 historic buses and coaches are expected to operate free bus services from Warminster Town Centre between 10 am and 5 pm. (just like it's always been, wait for weeks for a bus and then a whole load come along at once!). Visit their web page.

North Gloucestershire Railway Narrow Gauge Gala - Saturday 4 - Sunday 5 October
End of season gala featuring four working steam locomotives on the 'World War One' gauge railway at the GWR, Toddington, with intensive train service from 11am to 4pm. 16mm live steam layout. Visit working signal box. For more details, click here.
